Please review the job details below.Maxar is currently seeking a courageous, innovative, multi-skilled Flight Software Architect Fellow to join our Flight Software team in Westminster, CO, San Jose, CA, or Palo Alto, CALife with Us Your Project: In this role, you will lead and drive new flight software architecture development across agile teams, across the full range of Maxar space products, to include leading a cross-functional architectural team at developing a 5-year architectural roadmap aligned with business needs. We are looking for leaders to bravely challenge conventional approaches and lay the foundation for brand new product concepts and enablers focused on cost competitive space products. This is a unique opportunity that requires out-of-the-box solutions and inspired - and inspiring - leaders.Along with other members of this dynamic team, you will play an essential role in shaping product strategic roadmaps, and lead or oversee flight software architecture development across multiple development programs. You will be responsible for developing creative solutions to integrate customer inputs and technical requirements with your knowledge of design and production to architect software that that we can build profitably, with an emphasis on designing in sufficient flexibility and scalability to envelope a range of customer needs without requiring substantial NRE to tailor them to each new pursuit.Your Career: We're very serious about professional development and continuing education at Maxar. Your responsibilities:

  • Provide senior technical leadership & guidance to the team working NASA's Power Propulsion Element (PPE) for the Artemis mission.
  • Act as senior technical contributor to Architecture Center of Excellence for Flight Software.
  • Lead the development of new flight software architectures running on a range of hardware controlling all spacecraft functions, including Power management, Thermal Management, Mechanism Control, Guidance Navigation and Control, Fault management, & RF Autotrack)
    • Extract, discover, and discuss stakeholder and customer needs/desires and translate them into actionable requirements and design architectures
    • Guide hardware design and supplier selection based on software requirements
    • Develop applications that solve challenging spacecraft problems
    • Prototype avionics solutions using development hardware
    • Incorporate secure networking and communications architectures and technologies
    • Maximize the use of industry standard operating systems and open standards
    • Ensure new architectures are scalable and fit with the desired roadmap
  • Develop new spacecraft program scope estimates based on customer requirements.
  • Influence the shaping of future products by contributing to the framework (architecture) used across multiple products or systems.
  • Perform hazard analysis, FMECA for Safety critical software architecture and design
  • Define & analyze requirements; assist PM's in providing labor scope allocation across sub-groups.
  • Maintain compliance to commercial and governmental software development standards (CMMI, IEEE, NPR-7150.2C)
  • Represent flight software for failure review boards.
Minimum Qualifications:
  • Must be a U.S. citizen and be willing and able to obtain a TS/SCI security clearance
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Aerospace Engineering, or related technical field
  • 20 years of relevant engineering experience (A Master's degree may count as 5 years and a PhD may count as 8 years of experience ).
  • 15+ years related work experience with flight software development for aerospace programs
  • Experience working cross-functionally within a company and/or with external partners and contractors
  • Ability to travel domestically and internationally as needed (role predominantly local, although occasional travel between company sites or to customers sites is required)
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Current/active TS/SCI security clearance
  • Master's degre or PhD in Computer Science, Aerospace Engineering, or related field.
  • Demonstrated experience with abstracting software design to minimize interfaces and complexity
  • Experience implementing various software architectural patterns
  • Experience with development integration and functional testing of complex embedded systems
  • Experience with Software infrastructure design and interfaces, RTOS (GreenHills, VxWorks, RTEMS), 1553, RS422, RS485, SpW, Time Triggered Ethernet, CAN, discrete interfaces
  • Extensive experience with Avionics requirements and architectures (C&DH, modular architecture, communication interfaces and HW components, data handling and routing devices, command and telemetry interfaces, data storage devices), large solutions across HW/FPGA/SW for Complex Electronics Hardware (CEH)
  • Experience with both HWIL (COTS and EM HW) and SWIL/simulations
  • Experience in flight software, ground software, simulations, and Dynamics Analysis / modeling.
  • Experience with OS kernel and device driver development
  • Experience with Linux and visualization including containers and hypervisors
  • Experience with C and at least one other common high-level language
  • Experience with APIs and IDLs
  • Experience with Agile software development practices
  • Innovative thought leadership the leverages your cradle-to-grave product experience
  • Excellent communication skills along with the ability to effectively collaborate with cross functional teams
  • Ability to work independently with a high degree of organization and attention to detail
  • Previous contributions to industry technical publications or technical panels.
For the Colorado area, the compensation range for this position is $138,750.00 - $231,250.00 USD annually, dependent on skills and experience. This position is eligible for a bonus plan.
