LABORER

Job summary: General labor requirements for highway and/or civil construction.

Candidate should be capable of performing a variety of duties required by the supervisor. They should be able to work with a variety of tools and materials to complete the tasks. They should have an understanding and knowledge of skills required on the projects. They should be conscious of safety requirements on the jobsite and able to contact a supervisor if needed. Travel and pre-employment drug screen required.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Understanding of basic construction skilled required on a jobsite.
  • Perform required tasks in a safe manner, under all conditions, whether supervised or unsupervised.
  • Perform the following tasks: Grading, loading/unloading or stocking materials on the project, cleaning, and assistance during concrete pours, setting and removing concrete forms, demolition.
  • TOOLS – Hammer, tape measure, tying pliers.

Education and/or Experience: None is required but basic knowledge of heavy/highway and bridge and commercial construction is desired. Willingness to learn these areas of construction is also required.

Language Skills: Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.

Mathematical Skills: Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs. Must be able to read and understand a tape measure.

Reasoning Ability: Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
