The Director of Talent Strategy is a critical leader on the KIPP New Orleans People Team.They will own our overall strategy to ensure that excellent folks enter the classroom and are able to build a career overtime in KIPP New Orleans. The Director will also manage the Talent Strategy Manager to build a strong, diverse pipeline of new-to-teaching teachers as the leader of our recruitment and hiring for our residency program.The Talent Strategy team under the leadership of the Director of Talent Strategy will impact long-term retention and growth of teachers throughout the region, as they will operate as the regional leader of our teacher evaluation program—the Teacher Effectiveness Program (TEP), leader performance management systems, and ensure we meet all state-, district-, and grant-mandated talent compliance expectations. The Director of Talent Strategy will be an integral part of creating systems for finding, growing, and retaining excellent talent.

Key responsibilities are outlined below, though other tasks in support of the department’s work may also be necessary.

Performance Management & Evaluation

  • Hold vision, purpose, and details of our teacher and leader performance management & evaluation systems while managing the intersections with other aspects of KNOS (academic team, data team, human resources).
  • Plan, manage, and support school-based implementation around teacher and leader performance management & evaluation systems.
  • Plan and manage the tiny details and data of the behind the scenes work with our data teams to ensure the integrity and consistency of the systems.
  • Operate as the go-to point person for all teacher and leader evaluation system needs, opportunities, and questions, including grant requirement satisfaction.
  • Maintain data on staff attrition, retention, and pipeline planning across school-based roles, in conjunction with the Talent Recruitment team.
  • Conduct hiring processes for key leadership roles to backfill openings in our leadership pipelines.

Management

  • Supervise Talent Strategy Manager and provide oversight of that role in leading the KIPP New Orleans Schools Residency Program.
  • Supervise Alumni Teaching Force personnel, a program of KIPP New Orleans high school students being trained to become PK-12 classroom teachers who are supported through college to that end.
  • Delegate tasks related to talent initiatives as needed to the Talent Strategy Manager so department meets all outcomes.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree required
  • Belief in and passion for KIPP New Orleans Schools’ mission, students, families and community required
  • Outstanding organizational skills, with extraordinary attention to detail
  • 3 to 5 years of education-related and/or talent experience highly preferred
  • At least 1 year of experience directly managing others preferred
  • Exceptional skills in planning, project management, and holding high level goals while not dropping the tiniest of details
  • Excellent communication and people skills, with an ability to represent the mission and values of KIPP New Orleans Schools in conversations
  • Ability to create structure and manage projects and deadlines and clearly communicate progress toward goals with a wide variety of stakeholders
  • Ability to be flexible and entrepreneurial in a fast-paced environment under tight deadlines with multiple priorities
  • Articulate, professional demeanor with strong self-confidence and a self-starter approach to working
  • Desire to continuously learn and increase effectiveness as a professional
