The Business Relationship Manager (BRM) is a senior-level, strategic business partner who shares ownership for business strategy and business value results. The BRM owns senior-level relationships and serves as a single point of focus, working to converge IT and one or more lines of business or value streams. This is achieved by developing and influencing demand for capabilities and assets, in addition to ensuring that the potential business value from those capabilities and assets are recognized.Through effective relationship management capabilities, the BRM contributes to the IT/business partner relationship by actively partnering with business peers to determine strategic direction. They work to identify ways in which the BRMs function can support and advance business objectives. Additionally, the BRM shapes business demand into supply by partnering with appropriate IT resources to facilitate the creation of idea documents, business cases, and value plans, ensuring value optimization and communication, and enabling continuous improvement. This specific position will serve as the BRM to support the School of Medicine IT needs.

  • Coordinate all aspects of IT services provided by different organizational units (e.g. ITS, HIT) to ensure the SOM business needs are met
  • Work closely leadership and stakeholders to understand their functions technology needs and requirements that will advance business performance and enable them to meet their mission objectives
  • Coach business leaders and enable them to articulate their functions technology needs and requirements that will advance business performance.
  • Partner with business transformation teams (change management) and the project/program/portfolio management organization (PMO).
  • Partner with business leadership to plan new initiatives and evaluate proposals.
  • Measure adoption and work with business leadership to develop future roadmap and opportunities.
  • Identify and integrate business partners long-range plans into business capability roadmaps and priorities, as appropriate.
  • Advocate for an awareness and focus on business partner strategic plans.
  • Correlate business value and priorities to planning activities and goal-setting.
  • Work with IT & business partners to detail their objectives and shepherd those objectives through the Governance process, including evaluating proposals, project efforts and progress against strategic plans and objectives.
  • Be creative and innovative with regards to knowledge and awareness of industry trends and digital advances as they relate to new opportunities and business needs.
  • Lead the interface between IT and the business partner to ensure that the potential business value from those efforts are captured, realized, optimized, and recognized.
  • Develop a deep knowledge of the business partners business unit and build positive relationship development, both horizontally and vertically.
  • Ensure project and initiative progress, including consistent and effective communication. This includes managing escalation and avoiding risk.
  • Educate business partners about processes, roles, and capabilities.
  • Establish communication processes and channels across business functions.
  • Measure and communicate business value realized with the business partner on a periodic basis.
  • In addition to the above job responsibilities, other duties may be assigned.
Position Compensation Range: $71,988.80 - $115,190.40 AnnualMINIMUM REQUIREMENTSEducation: Bachelors degreeExperience: 5-7 years relevant experience. Relevant experience may be considered in lieu of a degree.Licensure: None required.PHYSICAL DEMANDSThis is primarily a sedentary job involving extensive use of desktop computers. The job does occasionally require traveling some distance to attend meetings, and programs.COVID Vaccination RequirementThe University of Virginia expects all current and new employees (UVA Health System and Academic), to be vaccinated against COVID-19.If hired to work within the University Health System, you will be required to provide proof of vaccination or be willing to receive the vaccination.
