Job Summary As an Engineer in the area of OBD certification and compliance, the primary responsibility will involve contributions to the engineering team for the purpose of obtaining timely approval of future model year OBD systems. This responsibility would include oversight of respective certification documentation, supporting activities to obtain certification of OBD systems. The tasks require high level of accuracy and continual interface with Certification Engineers (both in the US and Germany). Job Responsibilities OBD Certification (60%)

  • Assemble and contribute required certification information to the engineering team for achieving timely approvals of OBD System from the Agency.
  • Develop technical information and participate in negotiations informing the Agency about future OBD System strategies.
  • Lead discussions as the OBD technical representative involving OBD certification requirements and compliance related issues
  • Intergrates with the Certification team to ensure Homologation occurs to the agreed project timing
AECD Review and Change-Point Verification - (10%)
  • Reviews, verifies and approves AECD Submissions for rationality before inclusion in OBD and Certification applications and corresponds with responsible Brand ET AECD organizations for clarity and accuracy.
  • Coordinates analysis, reviews, multi-eye and sign-off of AECD revisions/changes submitted after initial OBD and Cert Applications.
  • Supports the EEO IUVP team to identify target AECD for on-vehicle testing during PEMS evaluation.
Technical Process Standards Development - (10%)
  • Manages and coordinates the development/update and periodic review of all technical process standards for the OBD team.
  • Manages and coordinates job work instruction documents and policies for the OBD team
  • Prepares OBD teams for audits and oversees all follow-up activities
OBD Issue Resolution (20%)
  • Leads the OBD compliance team in developing technical solutions of OBD field issues.
  • Technical representative for VWGoA during reporting discussions/negotiations with the Government Agency.
Required Experience
  • 5+ years OBD Certification experience.
Required Degree
  • BSME, BSEE, or BS degree equivalent.
Desired Degree
  • Master's Degree in related engineering discipline
Required Skills
  • Comprehensive understanding of OBD system software and hardware design.
  • Capable of comprehending present and future OBD strategy and calibration methodologies.
  • In depth knowledge of OBD regulations and regulatory requirements needed for OBD Certification.
  • Working experience in Auxilary Emission Control Devices creation, revision and reviewing with regulators
  • Familiarity with OBD tools and communications protocols.
  • Experience with Government Agency (CARB) negotiations involving OBD certification approval.
  • Detailed knowledge of vehicle emission standards, emission certification requirements, and AECD applications.
  • Demonstrated technical presentation and negotiation skills.
Desired Skills
  • Fuel control system design and/or calibration experience.
  • Software development of OBD control system algorithms.
  • General automotive analytical and diagnostic experience.
  • Knowledge of the design and function of serial bus systems.
  • Working knowledge of project timing
Work Flexibility
  • Minimal amount of travel required
  • Work schedule can be somewhat flexible (e.g., flextime, or compressed workweek).
  • Must be available to contact colleagues at U.S. and European locations and government agencies across the U.S. and Canada
