DescriptionJob summaryThe Amazon Web Services’ (AWS) Event Technology is looking for a technically-skilled Principal Product and Platform Architect to join our fast paced team. In this role, you will lead a team of talented engineers working on a highly visible project that will be used by millions of customers to power our AWS Events including AWS re:Invent, our marquee event. You will be responsible for scoping and architecting large projects end-to-end.The Principal Architect will drive cross-functional teams to develop the product and platform architectures for innovative new solutions in the Event Management domain. In particular, we are looking for a seasoned subject matter expert with deep understanding of the fundamentals and challenges in virtual interactivity and video streaming for event delivery. Responsibilities include managing the day-to-day execution of architecture deliverables, guiding and mentoring software developers, driving project schedules from technical design to release, and providing production launch oversight. You will lead and coordinate technical design/implementation efforts to develop optimal solutions.The right candidate will possess a strong technical leadership background and will have demonstrated experience leading medium to large projects. You must be able to thrive and succeed in an entrepreneurial environment with a high degree of ambiguity, relish the idea of solving problems, and not be hindered by ambiguity or competing priorities. This means you are not only able to develop and drive high-level strategic initiatives, but can also roll up your sleeves, dig in and get the job done. Along the way, you will learn a lot, have fun and make a positive impact on what is often one of the first impressions of AWS by customers.As a Principal Architect, you find clear paths through roadblocks, provide escalation management, anticipate and make tradeoffs, and balance the business needs versus technical constraints. What you will work on: You will architect, define, and drive implementation of components accessed by AWS customers around the globe at AWS Events. You will work closely with multiple product managers, user experience, and other engineering leaders to develop delightful web and mobile experiences by building and operating secure and scalable services. As we are a rapidly expanding small team, you will be required to have solid hiring and mentorship skills. Amazon’s culture of inclusion is reinforced within our 14 Leadership Principles, which remind team members to seek diverse perspectives, learn and be curious, and earn trust.BASIC QUALIFICATIONS· 7+ years of relevant engineering experience, 3 years managing engineers· Experience in partnering with product and program management teams· Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or equivalent combination of technical education and work experiencePREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS· Master's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering or related technical discipline· Solid software development background with strong fundamentals video workflow, playback, and delivery infrastructure and applications· Deep hands-on technical expertise in building business applications, web services and highly scalable applications· Experienced in professional software engineering practices for the full software development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, and operations· Ability to work autonomously in a highly demanding and often ambiguous environment, with attention to detail and organizational skills· Excellent verbal and written communication skills· Prior experience working with AWS technologies/services· Prior experience building web applications with React and modern web technologies· Proven track record working with early stage products· Meets/exceeds Amazon’s leadership principles requirements for this role· Meets/exceeds Amazon’s functional/technical depth and complexity for this roleAmazon is committed to a diverse and inclusive workplace.
