The Production Leader will oversee production departments in a distribution center setting. He/she will provide leadership and initiate actions to improve safety and quality at the lowest cost possible. The goal is to produce an outstanding product delivered on time and in spec while providing a safe and satisfying work environment for the employees. TheProduction Leader will be responsible for the following duties:

  • The Production Leader will report to the Operations Manager and is responsible for the supervision of approximately 30 employees.
  • Provides clear direction to support plant-wide goals and initiatives pertaining to safety, quality, delivery and cost.
  • Create and foster a strong safety culture through consistent communication- weekly/monthly employee meetings/toolbox talks and conducting by EH&S trainings.
  • Participate in EH&S incident reportingincluding near miss, accident investigations and corrective action.
  • Support continuous improvement projects and drive lean manufacturing principles.
  • Develop staffing plans based on forecasted demand including the hiring of new employees as well as redeployment of employees through the facility to adjust staffing for decreases in demand.
  • Facilitate onboarding and training for all new hires in conjunction with Human Resources.
  • Develop a working knowledge of the equipment and process in the production area to be able to make decisions that balance customer, employee and business needs.
  • Manage employee time & attendance by maintaining attendance records and PTO usage
  • Serve as a change agent in implementing and executing new processes to increase efficiency and on-time delivery.
  • Manage inventory accuracy through cycle counts, scrap transactions and production transactions.
  • Interact with employees and build relationships by regularly spending time on the plant floor listening to concerns and suggestions while identifying areas to target for improvement.
  • Inspire a sense of ownership and engage in conversations about associate's strengths and development needs.
  • Manage employee performance and development through annual review processes as well as on a daily basis.
  • Be cognizant of how employees treat each other and escalate issues where necessary.
  • Help create a positive work environment through employee appreciation by recognizing effort and celebrating a job well done.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications & Experience
  • Bachelor's degree in Materials Management discipline preferred, APICS Certification helpful or related experience.
  • Minimum of five years of supervisory experience in a manufacturing and/or distribution center environment is required.
  • Union avoidance experience preferred.
  • Managerial courage with a strong emphasis on making the best decision for the employees and the business.
  • Detail oriented, self-assured, tactful, supportive
  • Proven team player with excellent communication and interpersonal skills who can effectively interface and collaborate with employees at all levels of the organization.
  • Strong oral and written communication and presentation skills
  • Demonstrated leadership ability, organizational skills, decision making, and ability to drive change and efficiency.
  • Excellent computer software skills, proficiency in Microsoft Office, Excel, SAP, WMS
  • Trained in the use of Lean Manufacturing tools, 6S, and Kaizen events.
  • EH&S experience in compliance and training.
  • Experience in planning and scheduling daily production requirements.
