SUMMARY: The Telecommunications Tower Technician 1’s responsibility is to build and install telecommunications equipment on customer job sites, perform testing, and assist with all related tasks under direct supervision from a Telecommunications Tower Antenna & Line Lead or Foreman.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

Assist in performing jobsite system tests including, PIM, Sweep, Fiber OTDR, and optical power meters

Build, install, decommission, assemble, and modify ground and tower telecom equipment to include setting RET’s, azimuths, down tilts, connect conduit, pull wire, build/test jumpers, and terminate fibers, coax, and AC & DC power cable

Assist in troubleshooting site issues as they arise

Route cabling including coax, AC & DC power cable and fiber optic cable according to site documentation and schematics

Read drawings, plans and construction drawings

Perform basic crane signaling to direct lifting and moving of equipment by crane operators

Verifies that site materials are present and organized, identifies missing materials and informs Foreman

Performs work on 250+ feet telecommunications towers, water tanks, building rooftops and in confined spaces in all weather conditions by climbing and working from aerial personnel lifts

Cleans and organizes jobsites, tools and crew trucks and trailers

Other duties as assigned

In addition to the above, other required qualifications for this role are:

o Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Able to communicate effectively, clearly and succinctly through spoken and written forms with peers, management, and customers. Able to effectively communicate with people at all levels and from various backgrounds

o Working knowledge of construction, quality, safety and OSHA guidelines

o Must possess or be able to obtain valid certifications and licensing: Competent Climber & Rescue, Osha 10/30, First Aid/CPR, Radio Frequencies, Blood Borne Pathogens, DOT Health Card (Company provides training to assist in obtaining/renewing required certifications)

o Travel overnight up to 75% of the time

Preferred qualifications are:

o 0-1+ years’ experience as Telecommunications Tower Technician or other construction role

o Understanding of radio frequency, wireless systems including RRH’s, antennas, Diplexers, TMA’s, 4G & 5G networks, and familiarity with all carrier standards

o Ability to learn and perform jobsite system tests including, PIM, SWEEP, TDR fiber, and reading optical power meters

o Ability to build, install, decommission, assemble, and modify telecom equipment, as well as troubleshoot existing sites; including ability prepare radios, climb the tower, set RET’s, azimuths, down tilts, connect conduit, pull wire, build/test jumpers, and terminate fibers, coax, and AC & DC power cable

o Understands specific cable routing that includes but not limited to coax, fiber, etc. Including proficiency in cable management/layout

o Basic knowledge of crane operations and personnel lifts and appropriate signals.

o Understanding and ability to read drawings, plans and construction drawings

o Working knowledge of construction, quality, safety and OSHA guidelines

o Valid driver’s license and ability to maintain a clean driving record

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to, stand, sit, walk, lift, squat, push, pull, climb stairs, ladders and possibly towers, hear, see, reach, grasp and use hands and fingers to operate a computer key board, telephone, power tools, and equipment. The employee must have the ability to occasionally lift more than 50 lbs.

WORKING ENVIRONMENT:

While performing the essential functions of this job, the employee is exposed to extreme weather conditions, including heat and cold, and wet or humid. The employee may work in high places, and/or work around moving mechanical parts, vehicles and other equipment. The employee may also work in areas where the noise volume is loud and constant. The employee must have the ability to work overtime and to travel to remote job sites approximately 60 – 80% of their work week which will include overnight stays.
