Custodian

The Children's Museum of New Hampshire is looking for a responsible custodian to perform a variety of tasks to ensure the Museum's facilities and exhibits are clean and presentable to our guests. Reporting to Exhibits and Facilities, the Custodian performs work that includes routine cleaning, vacuuming, disinfecting surfaces and exhibit props, mopping floors, assisting with event set-ups and other duties as assigned. The Custodian is required to occasionally work from ladders at heights up to 12 feet and lift and carry objects up to 25 pounds. The ideal candidate will be friendly, diligent, and will have physical endurance to cover a large space. Some experience in a custodial or maintenance role is required; experience with heavy janitorial cleaning equipment a plus.

Must be able to work variable hours, Monday through Saturday. Initially this position will be scheduled for 5 hours a day, 4 days a week with an anticipated increase to 30 hours a week.

Responsibilities

-Sweep and mop floors and vacuum carpets

-Dusting surfaces and cleaning mirrors, windows, and high-touch surfaces

-Trash removal and general litter pick-up

-Restroom cleaning and restocking disposables (e.g. soap)

-General disinfecting of Museum surfaces and exhibit props

-Response to accidents as directed including mopping spills

-Assist with Museum service requests, including but not limited to: classroom set-up and breakdown, event clean-up and other requests

-Assist with cleaning supply inventory and stocking

-Undertake occasional janitorial tasks (shoveling snow from the sidewalk, lifting heavy items, moving chairs etc.)

-Undertake occasional use of equipment for carpet shampooing and waxing exhibit flooring

-Undertake occasional pressure washing of exterior surfaces

-Report any maintenance issues or building concerns

-Provide extraordinary customer service to Museum visitors

Skills

-Experience as custodian, janitor, housekeeping or in a similar role

-Knowledge of use and maintenance of industrial cleaning equipment and appliances

-Knowledge of safe disposal of chemical liquids and other hazardous components

-Attention to detail and conscientiousness

-Good physical condition and strength
