Job Description

At Eataly, a Produce Supervisor is also known as Produce Lead.

The Produce Lead, oversees the retail produce department for Eataly Toronto including but not limited to: purchasing, customer service, employee relations, department maintenance, merchandising and product management. Reports directly to the General Manager of Retail and reports functionally to the Eataly Corporate Product team.

As an ambassador of Eataly products and services, the Produce Lead is responsible for helping to create and maintain quality experiences for each guest that comes to Eataly. Eataly ambassadors are expected to actively engage with guests and spend quality time with each customer.

  • Ensures quality and freshness of all produce in the retail operations in accordance with Eataly’s quality standards.
  • Ensure that produce shelves, displays, aisles, preparation and storage areas are in clean and orderly condition, and that product is adequately stocked and rotated.
  • Demonstrate exceptional knowledge of produce (local, organic, farms, sustainability, etc.); maintain awareness of new products and regularly incorporate new products into the overall produce mix.
  • Demonstrate exceptional customer service in accordance to Eataly’s service standards.
  • Manages the produce team: hires, schedules, approves vacation, submits payroll, provides feedback and motivation, trains on products, ingredients and processes, and handles terminations
  • Set goals for produce team, communicate to team members, monitor performance and provide feedback.
  • Collaborates closely with the GM of Retail to ensure all necessary parties are aware of daily produce operations including absences, schedule coverage and product availability
  • Documents, investigates, elevates and resolves all employee and guest incidents
  • Receive orders and ensures proper receiving by other staff in accordance with established procedures. Keep accurate receiving records.
  • Orders and monitors inventory of all ingredients and products, including tracking and documenting daily transfers and waste in the appropriate system
  • Reviews financial information such as sales/costs and monitors budget to ensure efficient operation and spending within the specified budget; works with GM of Retail to correct any deviations from the budget
  • Follow and comply with established procedures, including Weights and Measures (scales, signage, price tags and labeling), health and sanitation, and adhere to safe work practices.
  • Performs other duties as required or assigned

Qualifications

  • 2+ years of leadership experience managing a produce/ grocery department
  • Strongly demonstrated produce knowledge and merchandising skills.
  • Plan and direct complex business operations and ability to solve business-related problems.
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Experience successfully managing inventory, profit margins and labor budgets.
  • Outstanding time management skills
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office

  • Ability to work a flexible schedule, including working weekends, nights and holidays
  • Ability to lift over 50 pounds
  • Repetitive use of hands for grasping, pushing, pulling, and fine manipulation.
  • Ability to work effectively in an open, dynamic and collaborative environment.
  • Ability to exert well-paced mobility for up to 8 hours, including standing, walking, bending and squatting
  • Ability to consistently meet our customers’ needs.
