POSITION: Maintenance Worker (WG-4749-05/07). This is a permanent federal position, starting pay $15.58/hour. Three vacancies may be filled from this announcement.ELIGIBILITY: Open to All US Citizens.TASKS/RESPONSIBILITIES: Performs carpentry duties in repairing and maintaining wood/wood substitute components of buildings and structures. Repairs small holes in plaster/gypsum board walls and ceilings. Replaces window glass to include glazing. Performs plumbing duties by replacing or repairing such items as faucets, flush valves, ballcocks, and diaphragms. Clears clogged drains and lines, replaces defective pipes which are exposed such as bathroom fixtures, fittings, and connections. Replaces gaskets and repacks valves. Using standard coating methods, paints exterior and interior surfaces using brushes, rollers, and sprayers. Prepares surface prior to painting by methods such as sanding and wirebrushing. Thins and mixes coating materials according to specific directions. Operates a motor vehicle with up to one ton capacity to transport supplies, equipment, and personnel to and from worksites. Performs operator maintenance on vehicle such as checking fluid levels and tire pressure. Completes trip tickets and accident reports as required. QUALIFICATIONS: Incumbent must have skills and knowledge of equipment and materials necessary to replace and repair items involved with the carpentry and plumbing work to detect common deficiencies and perform preventive maintenance type work. Must possess the skills to use tools common to the respective trades such as hammers, saws, screw drivers, pipe wrench, sanders, planers, etc. to accomplish the work assigned. Must be able to use standard coating methods and be able to prepare the surface for painting by using wire brushes and sanding. Must know how to apply paint to avoid runs, drips, and skips. Must know how to use brushes, rollers, and sprayers to apply paint. Must know how to safely operate a motor vehicle to start, stop, back, and drive vehicle. Must know how to perform operator maintenance and how to complete trip tickets and accident reports as required. WORKING CONDITIONS: Work requires long periods of standing stooping, reaching, and bending, and working in cramped, uncomfortable positions. Some work may be performed from ladders or scaffolding. May be required to lift items weighing up to 50 pounds alone or more with assistance. Light to moderate physical effort is required to operate motor vehicle.CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT: A pre-employment physical is required. Incumbent is required to obtain and maintain a valid state drivers license and any installation and/or DoD license required for the type of vehicle being driven. This position is covered by the civilian drug abuse testing program. Incumbent is required to sign a DA form 5019-R, and/or DA form 7412 "Condition of employment for certain civilian positions identified as critical under the drug abuse testing program," or a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU).
