Market Director of Rehabilitation Services, the Occupational Therapist

Assistant, assists Occupational Therapist in providing occupational therapy

services. Screens, educates, and provides therapeutic intervention for

individuals identified with disabilities that interfere with their ability to

perform daily life activities; must possess professional judgment and clinical

knowledge to develop individualized programs.Displays professional, safe

conduct in all interactions. Maintains positive working relationships with

staff, other departments, physicians and peers. Displays conduct in support of

CHI St. Luke’s Health Memorial Mission & Vision.Position Responsibilities:

Plans and implementsoccupational therapy treatment programs according to physician referral, and/orplan of care. Designs programs to meet the patient’s physical, psychological,and age specific needs.Performs testsand measurements of functional status, neuromuscular, musculoskeletal,cognitive/perceptual, and sensory /psychological functions.

Works collaboratively with allmembers of the interdisciplinary team, other departments and disciplines toassure patients and customer’s needs are met in a timely manner; encourages theactive participation of the patient and/or family in goal setting andpatient/family training/education.

Completes all necessarydocumentation as outlined by departmental policy and documentation review. Thisincludes, but is not limited to, patient care charting, charge entry,completing peer chart and peer reviews, and documenting on daily schedule.

Coordinates care of patientswith other departmental and organizational activities in a manner that fostersa positive professional image consistent with the departmental and organizationalgoals and mission statement. This includes, but is not limited to, dischargeplanning, participation in care conferences, interdisciplinary rounds,collaborative practice groups, the student program and community endeavors.

Assigns,supervises and reviews the care of patients and duties of the therapy technician.

Promotes and supports positiveand professional customer service, while interacting with clients, guests and internalpeers and customers.

Works collaboratively with allmembers of the interdisciplinary team, other departments and disciplines toassure patients and customer’s needs are met in a timely manner.

Encourages the activeparticipation of the patient and/or family in goal setting and patient/familytraining/education.

Provides positive andconstructive feedback to enhance departmental operations.

Completes all necessarydocumentation as outlined by departmental policy and documentation review,including but not limited to, patient care charting, charge entry, completingpeer chart and peer reviews, and documenting on daily schedule.

Utilizes available informationmanagement systems to support departmental and organizational goals, includingbut not limited to system wide e-mail, information announcements, policies,education, charge entry, and accessing patient care related information.

Accesses information inaccordance with policies and procedures.

Educatespatients regarding the appropriate placement and application of the telemetrymonitoring system.

Assistsin maintaining patient’s medical record, to include, but not limited tomcompiling new medical records, data entry and verification, and filing.

Reportsequipment malfunctions and ensures that all safety policies are followedconcerning malfunctioning equipment.

Demonstratestact and professionalism in working and communicating with patients/families,physicians, other members of the rehabilitation team, and other employees ofthe healthcare system.

Asa member of the Rehabilitation Services Team, ensures that the patient/familyis satisfied with the rehabilitation services provided any that any issue thatarises is addressed and resolved promptly.

Complieswith and develops efficient and creative ways to maintain departmentalproductivity standards.

Adheres to CHI St. Luke’s Health Memorial policies, including butnot limited to “CHI Values & Ethics at Work”, HIPPA, PHI, ePHI, PrivacyRule, and confidentiality.

Maintains safe work habits; adheres to safety rules; immediatelyreports any unsafe condition; immediately reports any incident / injury.

Supportsdepartment-based goals and contributes to the success of the organization.Complies with hospital policies and procedures;attends required in – services, education and training.

Performs duties in accordance with thatof hospital policies and procedures, and regulatory agency guidelines.

Wears identification badgeand clocks in appropriately.

Demonstrates a willingness to follow the chain of command,regularly channels suggestions, criticisms and complaints to the appropriateperson.

Performsother duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications: Education Level Required: Associates degree from accredited Occupational

Therapy Assistant program.Licensure/Certification Licensure/Certification Continued: Required: Current State Licensure as Occupational

Therapist Assistantissued by Executive Council of Physical Therapy

and Occupational Therapy Examiners – OTA (ECPTOTE)(NBCOT if initial licensurehas COTA

designation)BLS certification (through an approved AHA program).Preferred: Member of the American Occupational Therapy Association (AOTA) and

the Texas Occupational Therapy Association (TOTA).Registered COTA through National Board of Certified Occupational

Therapy (NBCOT).Knowledge, Skills, andAbilities Must be able to effectively use computer and computer

programs for documentation, departmental information and inter/intra

departmental communication.Experience Required: NonePreferred:2-3 years of professional

experience asOTA (Occupational Therapist
