The University of Virginia Library seeks applicants for a User Experience Designer on the UX Team within the Communications Department. The User Experience Designer is responsible for helping with user experience, user interface design, user research, as well as some digital and print design projects. Responsibilities include: User Experience Design· Collaborate with communications and user experience teams to uncover user needs - then work together to translate those needs into intuitive and engaging experiences· Advocate for the user through human-centered design methods, ensuring our products, systems and services serve their needs· Conceptualize original user interface design ideas that bring simplicity and user friendliness to complex roadblocks· Communicate interaction and design ideas by creating wireframes, storyboards, user flows, process flows and site maps· Work with the UX Research team to understand customer needs and define what is needed visually throughout the user experience using methods such as card sorting and tree testing, as well as usability studies· Partner with cross functional stakeholders to understand user experience requirements· Stay abreast of evolving user experience practices to proactively identify and recommend opportunities to enhance business processes and toolsGraphic & User Interface Design· Create and produce graphic materials using a range of media, methods, techniques, and equipment· Create original graphic design and comprehensive visual concepts, including banners, layouts, posters, advertisements, etc.User Research· Advocate for the user through human-centered design methods, ensuring our products, systems and services serve their needs· Help with various user testing, focus groups, interviews, card sorting, tree tests, surveys, personas, and other methods to achieve research objectivesQualifications:
- Bachelor's in English, Communications, Computer Science, or other related field and at least 1 year of related work experience.
- 5 or more years of related work experience may be considered in lieu of a degree.
- Passion for developing simple, clean, elegant user experiences
- Possess strong attention to detail, focusing on visual and behavioral patterns
- Experience with a collaborative culture; collaborate with local and remote design teams conducting frequent feedback sessions and iterations of your design work
- Champion of user-centered design and user-research methodologies
- Experience with using standard UX design tools: Figma, Sketch, Axure
- Proficient with Adobe Creative Suite
- Solid understanding of HTML/CSS elements and principles
- Ability to create consistent experiences while utilizing a UI/UX design system
- Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills
