We're looking for an influential engineering leader to provide strategic direction on initiatives with significant impact to the entire engineering organization across Capital One.This position is for a Distinguished Engineer who will be an individual contributor significantly impacting our trajectory and roadmap for our Cloud Safety mission. This individual will specifically be focused on enabling teams across the company to innovate while safely leveraging the latest native services on the cloud. They will be responsible for working on our cloud controls platform and the developer community user experience that it provides. They will be evolving our strategic approach to governance and controls on the cloud, embracing them as a way to protect our customers and associates while also creating freedom for our development organization. Our goal is to make the guardrails strong, resilient, and transparent, and to continue to lead the industry in modern approaches to governance in a highly-regulated environment. The mission will offer visibility and facilitation to the organization as we adopt new cloud services, build and operate controls, and understand cost dynamics. We believe fundamentally that cloud safety comes through automation and sustainable, technology-oriented solutions. - Operate as a trusted advisor for a specific technology, platform or capability domain, helping to shape use cases and implementation in an unified manner
- Lead the way in creating next-generation talent for Tech, mentoring internal talent and actively recruiting external talent to bolster Capital One's Tech talent
- Technical Leadership: the ability to inspire your teams to deliver extensible and high quality understanding of microservices, operating in the cloud, cloud native design patterns and general design principles, relational and non relational data stores and core software engineering skills
- Ability to collaborate and influence business partners in developing and driving strategic technology roadmaps.
- Ability to understand the business, processes and engage in strategy and cost benefit conversations
- A history of embracing and incubating emerging technology and open source products
- Innovative thinking with a passion for problem-solving
- Ability to take ideas and concepts, and visualize them in ways such that they are communicated effectively and compellingly for internal leaders, partners and customers
- Bachelor's Degree
- At least 7 years of experience architecting, designing, developing, and maintaining enterprise software in Java or Python
- At least 5 years of experience building cloud native applications or DevOps tooling
- Master's Degree
- 10+ years of experience in software and DevOps engineering
- 6+ years of experience with architectural patterns, building APIs, microservices, event stream processing, and high-throughput computing
- 6+ years of experience building cloud native architectures and architecting enterprise applications on public cloud platforms and cloud ecosystems
- 4+ years of experience working with AWS tool suite (IAM, Lambda, DynamoDB, Fargate, ECS, Code Deploy, Code Pipeline)
