Location: Newmarket, NH Salary: 150000 - 200000 Description: Architectural Engineering Design Team ManagerDescriptionSeeking an experienced and talented Design Team Manager to join our team in Newmarket, NH. In addition to supporting projects throughout New England, this position supports our clients and firm offices nationwide. Unique leadership opportunity within an engaging, dynamic, and expanding multi-disciplinary A-E consulting group.Position responsibilities include managing a multidisciplinary team of engineers and architects supporting diverse projects in Federal, commercial, and industrial markets. This position will lead engineering and design responsibilities for varying projects ranging in construction value from $100k to $100M. Practice disciplines include Architecture, Civil, Structural, Mechanical, Electrical, and Controls. Diverse project scopes involve land development and site infrastructure, rehabilitation and adaptive reuse of existing buildings, and new buildings and facilities. Buildings and facilities include office, multi-family, industrial, manufacturing, pharmaceutical, medical, and various military (DoD) facilities (e.g., entry control, ranges, laboratory, waterfront infrastructure, warehouses, training, housing, maintenance, etc.).Daily responsibilities include management of practice leads and senior staff. In addition to managing the office team, role responsibilities include direct communication with corporate leadership including Operations, Sales, Contracts, Legal, Finance, and Accounting. Responsible for the financial management of the cost center (business unit) including forecasting, productivity management, and reporting. The DTM supports business development programs including opportunity mining, capture strategy, and proposal development. Customer engagement involves consistent communication and ensuring satisfaction and excellent customer ratings promoting continued contracts. Short-duration travel is occasionally required for pre-proposal meetings, customer meetings, project reviews, conferences, etc.Education and Professional Credentials:Bachelor or Master's degree in Engineering or Architecture.Licensed Professional Engineer or Architect (P.E., R.A./AIA) and ability to obtain licensure in multiple states.Other relevant credentials include LEED, PMP, CCP, CEM, etc.Security Clearance RequirementsCurrent possession or ability to obtain DoD CAF Top Secret clearance.Ability to obtain security clearance at active U.S. DoD installations worldwide.Relevant Work Experience:Minimum ten years of demonstrated relevant work experience at a large A-E consulting firm with design team management responsibilities.Demonstrated success managing complex and diverse A-E design projects as measured by deliverable quality, customer satisfaction, and profitability.Federal contracts management experience including DoD and non-DoD agencies.Experience managing multi-year task order contracts (IDIQ, MATOC, SATOC).Design-build contract delivery.Management and Leadership SkillsIndustry Knowledge: Fundamental knowledge and a general understanding of the engineering and architecture consulting industry. Comprehension of essential functions and processes necessary for firm success and profitability. Establish and execute strategic plans for firm development and growth. Collaborate with executive leadership to define needs and support.Staff Management: Demonstrated management and supervision capabilities including employee recruiting, professional development support, performance assessments, and corrective measures. Maintain resource projections consistent with backlog and prospective contracts. Identify gaps in technical capabilities and capacity and initiate recruiting efforts.Prepare position descriptions and collaborate with corporate recruiting functions and agencies to target candidates, recruit, and retain best talent. Maintain top-down accountability.Oral Communication: Ability to effectively communicate with the project team and stakeholders including group staff, corporate staff, executive staff, customers, and the public. Ability and confidence to present to various audiences including internal, customer, and public.Written Communication: Advanced technical writing skills and ability to independently compose professional documents (emails, letters, proposals, and reports). Ability to define the appropriate content and context for the subject audience. Efficiently develop coherent and complete written documents.Financial: Competent understanding of A-E consulting financials including fee estimating, project cost tracking, forecasting, and reporting. Understanding of AP/AR processes and ability to collaborate with corporate functions. Ability to consistently maintain profit expectations and to identify and resolve potential issues related to scope creep, scheduledelays, and productivity.Contracts: Competent understanding of A-E consulting contract terms and conditions for commercial and Federal industries. Ability to collaborate with corporate contracts and legal counsel and to negotiate fair and reasonable contracts that mitigate firm risk and exposure.Business Development: Competent understanding of the business development process from opportunity mining through proposals. Support the business development team with fee estimating and technical approach strategy. Key involvement in strategic capture plan and go/no-go decision making. Active participation with industry and professional organizations and events. Maintain consistent customer engagement and identify opportunities for contract modifications and new contracts consistent with customer needs.Technical CapabilitiesEngineering and Design Standards: Ability to identify and reference applicable codes and standards and interpretation of such specific to the associated design. Experienced and knowledgeable in current industry design standards and ability to identify and implement new technologies and practices. Understanding and familiarity with current industry codes, and standards (IBC, ASTM, AIA, etc.). Experience with Federal/DoD design standards and guides (WBDG, UFC, UFGS).Quality Management: Understanding of general industry expectations and presentation standards for engineering and design deliverables including drawings, specifications, reports, studies, etc. Ability to define and maintain compliance with existing design quality plans and processes (workflow). Review design deliverables to ensure established quality standards are satisfied and that defined quality processes are adhered to by the design team. Ensure that allcontracts required deliverables are complete.Specifications: Experience developing and managing specification development. Knowledge of current industry standards and ability to identify appropriate specification sections and standards for the associated design (MasterSpec, SpecsIntact, manufacturer specifications).CAD: General knowledge of CAD and BIM workflow and software and other industry A-E software tools.
