Position Description: Associate Network EngineerUnder moderate supervision, the Associate Network Engineer resolves issues related to the coordination, control, design, support and operation of basic components of a network including data, voice or video such as Local Area Networks (LANs), Wide Area Networks (WANs), and voice systems. Plans, configures, tests, maintains, troubleshoots and tunes the network infrastructure as it relates to routers, switches, gateways, firewall systems, multi-function switches, virtual private networks and network security devices. Accountabilities: • Provides technical support for the design and deployment of enterprise wide network infrastructure solutions.• Responds timely to network emergencies and outages during working hours and on an on-call basis to provide optimal service levels. This includes managing urgent issues by setting customer expectations and effectively collaborating with any/all appropriate departments as deemed necessary on a case by case basis.• Documents all enterprise networking activities/engagements as they relate to individual or system wide efforts, projects, enhancements or maintenance. In order to fulfill this requirement one may need to produce, in a timely and efficient fashion, various Visio diagrams, Word documents, Excel spreadsheets, or Sharepoint content.• Actively participates and contributes to network discussions as they relate to new designs, challenges, operations, projects, documentation and more in support of the enterprise.• Demonstrates exceptional oral and written communication skills necessary to interact/collaborate with peers, management, vendors and others. • Performs duties in accordance with Penn Medicine and entity values, policies, and procedures• Other duties as assigned to support the unit, department, entity, and health system organizationNetwork EngineerResolves issues related to the coordination, control, design, support, and operation of specialized components of a network whether data, voice or video such as Local Area Networks (LANs), Wide Area Networks (WANs), and voice systems. Plans, configures, tests, maintains, troubleshoots and tunes network infrastructure such as routers, switches, gateways, firewall systems, multi-function switches, virtual private networks and network security devices. Accountabilities: • Maintains data, voice or video network hardware and systems; investigates and resolves network and hardware matters of significance; researches, analyzes, isolates and resolves errors; assesses and evaluates current and future systems.• Provides technical support and input on network design issues. Provides problem resolution of problems to less experienced personnel.• Evaluates and tests data, voice or video networking technologies to establish their potential use. Contributes to appropriate testing routines or scripts; may conduct more testing to meet specified requirements.• Designs, implements and maintains LAN, WAN, or Voice Systems in accordance with specified requirements.• Analyzes data, voice or video network documentation and assists in communicating to management regarding the current operational status of networks.• Provides input to methods and procedures for new data, voice or video technologies to ensure performance. Recommends approach for customer, based on assessment of customer needs.• Works with the Business to clarify programs/projects and then through the full systems development lifecycle. Manages client expectations and project status throughout the project, ensuring that project goals, budgets and timelines are met. • Provides consultation, support and guidance to organizations and clients. May develop and conduct training as needed or appropriate. Supports client expectations and balances the needs of organization and client to ensure satisfaction for all relevant parties. • Prepares proposal documentation and information to meet customer requirements. Recommends data, voice or video network investment decisions to management and customers based on results of independent assessment of current and future network performance, stability, and network management issues.• Performs cost analyses and vendor comparisons to ensure cost-effective and efficient operations; measures feasibility of various approaches, makes recommendations as appropriate.• Performs duties in accordance with Penn Medicine and entity values, policies, and procedures• Other duties as assigned to support the unit, department, entity, and health system organizationSenior Network Engineer Resolves complex issues related to the coordination, control, design, support, and operation of specialized components of a network whether data, voice or video such as Local Area Networks (LANs), Wide Area Networks (WANs), and voice systems. Plans, configures, tests, maintains, troubleshoots and tunes complex network infrastructure such as routers, switches, gateways, firewall systems, multi-function switches, end offices, signaling transfer points, private branch exchange (PBX), call management system (CMS) and network security devices. Minimum Requirements: Associate Network EngineerRequired Education and Experience: • Bachelor's Degree required, in computer Science or other related discipline preferred. • Current Internal Penn Medicine Information Services division employees may be considered with proof of active and continued enrollment in an approved bachelor degree program.• At least 1 year of basic network infrastructure experience required.Licenses, Registrations, and Certifications preferred: • Cisco Certified Entry Networking Technician (CCENT), Certified Wireless Network Administrator (CWNA), Juniper Networks Certified Internet Associate (JNCIA), A+, Network+, Security+ preferred. Required Skills: • Ability to implement process improvements• Ability to learn new technical skills, applications, and processes• Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from others• Ability to follow oral and written instructions• Ability to troubleshoot, research and solve technically challenging problems• Ability to assess, troubleshoot and fix equipment failures in a timely fashion. • Ability to travel throughout all existing enterprise locations supported by the organization.Preferred Skills: • Ability to use Microsoft Visio, Excel and Word preferred. Network EngineerRequired Education and Experience: • Bachelor's Degree required, in engineering, computer science, information systems or related field preferred. • Current Internal Penn Medicine Information Services division employees may be considered with proof of active and continued enrollment in an approved bachelor degree program.• At least 4 years of experience in data, voice or video networks required. • Experience working with multiple technical platforms (i.e.: mainframe, two-tiered client server, three-tiered client server required. • Experience working with network systems, networking platforms, data voice or video required. • Experience working with network software and hardware, data, voice or video required. • Experience working with proprietary software and hardware required. • Experience in a healthcare Information Services setting preferred. Required Skills: • Ability to communicate technical information and ideas• Demonstrated interpersonal/verbal communication skills• Ability to troubleshoot, research and solve technically challenging problems• Able to translate complex information into simple explanationsSenior Network Engineer Required Education and Experience: • Bachelor's degree required, in engineering, computer science, management information systems, or related field preferred. • Current Internal Penn Medicine Information Services division employees may be considered with proof of active and continued enrollment in an approved bachelor degree program.• At least 5 years of experience in data, voice, or video networks required. • Experience working with multiple vendor platforms (e.g. Avaya, Cisco, Juniper, HP, F5, or Palo Alto) required.• Experience working with network systems, networking principles, data, voice or video required. • Experience working with network management software required. • Healthcare environment experience is preferred.Licenses, Registrations, and Certifications preferred: • APDS, CCNA, JNCIA, or F5-CA preferredRequired Skills: • Good network performance modeling or benchmarking skills• Skilled in time, priority, and task management• Interpersonal skills to interact with customers and team members• Good communication skills to interact with team members and support personnel• Good leadership skills to guide and mentor the work of less experienced personnel• Ability to anticipate problems, resolve ambiguity and take decisive action• Ability to work independently and as part of a team• Good ability to analyze and solve complex problems using analytical and creative problem solving skills for design, creation and testing of networks• Ability to convey a strong presence, professional image, and deal confidently with complex technical problems• Willingness to travel locally Additional Information: As part of our COVID-19 response, this position may currently be offering partial or full remote work.
