JOB SUMMARY

: Generate initial budget estimates for all Creative Studio projects in ideation, feasibility and concept phases with scopes ranging from new Attractions, Shows and Lands to entirely new Theme Parks. Actively participate in the early-stage design process as part of the team, providing cost guidance as ideas and designs are being created. Partners with UC Finance and PMO teams and presents all estimates to UC executives during Studio Gate Reviews.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Generates and updates overall project estimates for new concepts and ideas through-out design, including ideation, feasibility, and concept phases. Presents detailed estimates to UC executives.
  • Actively participates in the creative design process with Studio and Vendor designers to develop new ideas and concepts, providing cost information that informs design during creation of packages.
  • Create “cost walks” to show cause of changes and develop cost savings lists and matrices to mitigate cost overruns. Help design teams understand key cost drivers to reduce overall costs.
  • Research market conditions for cost trends in show and facility (both locally and internationally). Develop location cost factors and escalation factors. Analyze UC historical costs and develop comparisons for various attractions, elements, lands and parks.
  • Develop and maintain a database of cost comparisons for various attractions and non-attraction show elements and facilities in partnership with Finance, Engineering & Safety and PMO.
  • Understand and actively participate in Environmental, Health & Safety responsibilities by following established policy, procedures, training and team member involvement activities.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION: Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Finance, Accounting, or a related business field is required.

EXPERIENCE:

  • 10-15 years estimating experience in theme parks, or themed entertainment projects, or a combination of show, ride and facility estimating required; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Experience in early-stage design estimating (Ideation, Feasibility and Concept) as part of a design team is highly preferred; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION: Individual must be capable of presenting cost estimates to upper management positions, including the Chief Creative Officer, and the President of Universal Creative. Individual must also have significant skill in delivering cost and financial data and analysis to an audience of varying levels of comprehension, with high sensitivity to how the information may be received (designers, artists, technicians, etc.).
