Role OverviewReporting to the CIO, as the Director, Product Engineering, you will provide thought leadership to drive the development, deployment, and evolution of AMN’s MSP technology products, services, and overall experience for our most strategic clients. Your goal will be to provide healthcare client organizations with the workforce solutions needed to serve their communities. In collaboration with Shiftwise and AMN leaders, you will deploy your experience, skills, and dedication to create the product engineering plans aligned with ShiftWise’s strategy. Working closely with product management, you will develop the technical roadmap that aligns with building a world-class Vendor Management System platform for our enterprise and strategic clients. You will lead our efforts to ensure the highest quality software development across the ShiftWIse Product Engineering group, focused primarily on technical solution development supporting vendor management products we are delivering to our customers.You will have direct oversight of a team of about 20-30 engineers, who will develop solutions for enterprise clients with web and mobile needs. The team will be dispersed throughout different locations and will include both onshore and offshore resources.The role will be responsible for developing and expanding the following technology products:
  • ShiftWise VMS 2.0 (including mobile application)
  • Shiftwise Reporting & Analytics solutions
  • Shiftwise Client Portal
  • Shiftwise AV Portal
  • Fyre VMS Integration

Role SpecificsMore specifically, your key job tasks will be to:
  • Lead the software development of the technical solutions across ShiftWise Engineering group, affecting the very experience of our perspective of customers by defining the technical solutions to the product-defined customer experience we endeavor to build.
  • A hands-on leader will assess existing and potential talent to build out this world-class team of up to 20-30 software engineers and managers.
  • Form strategic partnerships with senior internal customers within and outside of the technology organization.
  • Contribute to strategy and supporting roadmaps aligned to the overall strategy in collaboration with other directors and enterprise architecture.
  • Actively plan and manage a portfolio of high-quality products & services through a lifecycle of envisioning/investing/sustaining/retiring.
  • Maintain knowledge of new developments in the area of specialty and incorporate these innovations where appropriate. Drive innovation, improvement, and adoption of industry-leading practices including open source, CI/CT/CD, cloud, microservices/container architecture.
  • Recommend and implement technology direction for applications and services including package, SaaS, and custom-developed solutions.
  • Lead system design of highly scalable systems with native telemetry and monitoring in mind. Enabling self-healing systems.
  • Drive cost out of systems operations and maintain critical technology roadmaps in place to continue to adapt to new technologies.
  • Negotiate any third-party deals for tools, services, or products.
  • Agile/SAFe champion Supervisory Responsibilities.
  • Develop and maintain a culture where employees are highly motivated, energetic, and productive. Hold self and team members accountable to high standards and company values.
  • Create a sense of product “ownership” amongst the team.
  • Negotiation and conflict resolution while maintaining productive relationships.
  • Take accountability for department budget, delivery, and service performance, optimizing the cost of service delivery, ensuring services are meeting or exceeding service levels.
  • Be responsible for other Duties/Projects as assigned by business management as needed.

The Ideal CandidateTo be a strong fit for this opportunity you will have:
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Information Technology related discipline or equivalent from accredited college or university (or an equivalent combination of education and experience)
  • Master’s Degree preferred
  • 10+ years experience owning, managing, and developing highly-scalable systems capable of serving enterprise customers
  • 7-10 years experience in software development with a budget of $3 million spending
  • 5+ years’ progressive leadership experience in setting technology strategy, software development, engineering, and operations
  • 3+ years experience in developing solutions using either Azure AWS or Google cloud platforms
  • Experience in a B2B SaaS-based company will be an advantage
  • Well versed and experienced in Agile / Continuous Development and Deployment across several Software Development teams
  • Experience developing technology strategy and product roadmaps Broad technology product experience and a passion for staying abreast of the state of the market both broad industry trends and in-depth in an area of specialization
  • Strong collaborative skills to work across multiple stakeholder groups to translate business strategies, initiatives, goals, and objectives into product roadmaps and budgets
  • Ability to communicate technical concepts and break down complex business problems into easily understood communications
  • Leadership skills include the ability to motivate, inspire, counsel, coach, mentor,r and facilitate individuals and teams to take responsibility and accountability for the goals
  • Transformational leadership abilities with a deep understanding and practical application of change management framework that will enable the continued transition of activities in alignment with our AMN strategy
  • Strategic thinking and problem-solving skills
  • Negotiation, facilitation, and stakeholder management skill
  • Financial acumen and the ability to manage budgets, cost, quality, and schedule controls
You should also be willing and able to travel approximately 25 percent of the time.
