Location: Kent, WA Description: Our client is currently seeking a Senior Propulsion Research Engineer - Advanced Tec This job will have the following responsibilities:

  • You will work with internal and external customers and stakeholders to mature advanced technology projects aligning with business unit demands to assess and develop innovative technologies that will unlock the gate to increased space exploration. You will also collaborate with internal product teams and external researchers to pull on path technology into mainstream program implementation. Your primary focus will be to advance the knowledge and understanding of existing liquid rocket engine systems and components such as: combustion devices, turbomachinery, valves, ancillary systems, and overall engine operation. Using your knowledge of chemical, electric and thermal propulsion, you will solve tough technology project problems to rapidly advance knowledge through individual research, subject matter experts, academic interaction, and design-development teams. Working with the Fluids, Propulsion and Power Advanced Technology Team will provide you the opportunity to use knowledge of vehicle fluids and power systems to support the team in interacting technology projects. You will accomplish this by supporting studies and trades for advanced concepts and systems in the areas of fluids, propulsion and power, including the support of generating proposals. Developing and maintaining the technology roadmap and working with other business units on product roadmaps will be important elements of your efforts. You will support project planning and business processes for reviews, approvals and technology project execution using your written, verbal and visual communication skills to effectively deliver results.
Qualifications & Requirements:
  • Qualifications: Minimum of a B.S. degree in appropriate engineering or scientific field of study 10+ years of experience or equivalent advanced degree, experience and demonstrated expertise Ability to effectively collaborate on multi-disciplinary and cross-functional teams Experience with liquid rocket engine propulsion and component such as: combustion devices, turbomachinery, valves, ancillary systems, and overall engine operation Knowledge of electric and thermal propulsion systems Knowledge of vehicle fluids and power systems Experience in hiring process and ability to raise hiring bar to grow teams Exhibit excellent judgement and be comfortable making high-quality and high-velocity decisions Exhibit excellent written and verbal communication skills Exhibit ability to adapt and excel in changing, growing environment Ability to earn trust, maintain positive and professional relationships, and contribute to a culture of inclusion. Desired: Advanced degree applicable to propulsion systems Experience in research environment at academic or business level, or both Liquid rocket engine experience in concept, design, development, test, or flight operations Experience with engineering tools such as: Matlab and Simulink, CAD (Creo Pro/E preferred), FEA (ANSYS preferred), CFD (CFD and CRUNCH preferred), and system power balance and dynamic simulation (ROCETS and Amesim preferred) Experience with cryogenic fluids, storable propellants, combustion dynamics, and super alloy materials Experience with high speed data acquisition and analysis Experience with collaboration tools such as Confluence and JIRA Experience with proposal development
