Job Description: -Supports engineering activities such as design, test, check-out, modification, fabrication and assembly of prototype electromechanical systems, experimental design circuitry or specialized test equipment. Applications include analog, digital and power electronic systems. -Independently works from schematics, diagrams, written and verbal descriptions, layouts, and defined plans to perform testing, checkout, and trouble-shooting functions. -Performs test set-up, qualification and agency certification testing, and data capture for test reports with minimal supervision and guidance. -Uses test, development, and diagnostic equipment, including, but not limited to, oscilloscopes, current and voltage probes, waveform generators, spectrum analyzers, and specialized test apparatus. Minimum Qualifications: -Expertise working with high voltage (240V, 480V, etc.) -Experience with safe work practices in a high voltage laboratory -Meet physical job requirements for laboratory work and equipment handling 8 hours on feet and moving around workcells, repeatedly lifting 35 pounds, bending and forming heavy MCM wire -Proficient with the use of instrumentation, measurement techniques for voltage and current (Oscilloscopes, voltage probes, current probes) -Experience with MS Office tools for creation of test reports and presentations, and data capture Job Duties: -Works independently on assignments requiring considerable judgment and initiative. -Understands implications of work and makes recommendations for solutions -Performs component, subsystem, and product testing, evaluating performance per specifications -Maintains and learns new technological skills so that they may be appropriately applied in product test or to develop processes -Utilizes and interprets the following test and development instrumentation: digital oscilloscopes, voltage and current probes, tachometers, power supplies, signal generators, spectrum analyzers, EMC analyzers, surge generators, and partial discharge testers -Understands and practices laboratory procedures for the safe and efficient use of electronic instrumentation, electrical power, rotating electrical machinery, and general laboratory cleanliness -Writes reports, test plans and other related or supporting levels of documentation -Assists others in the accomplishment of development programs, from evaluating design concepts through experimentation and prototype development including engineering documentation -Uses ordinary hand and power tools to construct and fabricate prototype circuits, sub-systems and systems commonly found in a power electronics industry -Learns and uses software tools to interface to and control the operation of a variable frequency drives (VFD) -Troubleshoots, solders components and repairs printed circuit boards -Composes well written, legible, and accurate notes of experiments, including a summary on interpreting test results and recommendations -Learns and uses software tools such as SAP -Travels to off-site facilities in greater Milwaukee area for EMC, shock and vibration testing for product qualification and certification
