The Business Architect provides a pivotal view into how an organization does its work. The role provides a top-down view of the business flow. It is an Enterprise Operational perspective. That perspective can be used to define the value of work, technology applications, and data by looking at their respective contribution to how the organization does its work. It also provides the start of the breakdown of that top-level view into contributing department and business function views. So it forms the “Value Chain” that characterizes the heartbeat of the organization, and allows the subsequent analysis of the effectiveness of each component work, application, and data tool. We are looking for a seasoned business architect who sees things from the top down and how they are integrated, or should be to reach changing goals.

  • Value Chains and Business Process Flows are an essential ingredient of overall business architecture, and the business architect collaborates with the process architects/process owners.
  • Business Architects are responsible for overall or large portion big-picture thinking – encompassing business and information needs.
  • Business Architects strive to define business architectures that bind an enterprise strategy, design, modeling, and solutions ecosystem.
The primary responsibilities of this position will be to:
  • Communicating among stakeholders in ways that generate trust and facilitate completion of delivered business solutions of high benefit
  • Documenting business architecture efficiently and in ways that facilitate implementation of solutions for business benefit
  • Bridging communications between technical and business teams
  • Facilitating governance, open communication and fact-based decision making
  • Conducting assessments of present business, process, and performance capabilities
  • Modeling a present and future architectures, with roadmaps and patterns to help leaders select between alternative approaches to realize their goals
  • Ensuring consistency and integration of all client architectures with sources of authority, vision, strategies, and priorities
  • Assisting project team development of plans and assessment of feasibility
  • Advising Senior Management on emerging trends impact on strategies
  • Advising client selection of solutions, methodologies, industry standards, best practices, and frameworks best suited for their present readiness to sustain value
  • Collaborating with quality teams to drive continuous improvement
  • Coaching, mentoring and training the organization to perform any of the above
Mandatory Qualifications
  • Experience delivering Business Process Flow Models across enterprise performance needs
  • Contributing to the delivery of strategic plans, managing program or project portfolios, and/or building road maps to improved architecture states
  • Demonstrated experience and references for strong interpersonal communications, analytical problem solving, negotiating, influencing, and bringing work to closure
  • Demonstrated experience and references for ability to influence peers, managers, executives, and implementation teams
  • Advanced proficiency in a variety of design tools such as Visio, as well as the MS Office Suite
  • Strong technical writing, documentation development, and verbal communication skills
  • Excellent analytical, problem solving and decision-making skills
  • Experienced in establishing architectural Policies, Standards, Principles, Guidelines, and Best Practices
  • Excellent analytical and process-oriented skills
  • Excellent oral and written communication and presentation skills
  • Demonstrated experience in coaching and mentoring to be able to accomplish efficient knowledge transfer in general; to accomplish specific knowledge transfer in the areas of data and data architectures and; to accomplish specific knowledge transfer in the areas of tools, techniques and methodologies.
  • Demonstrated broad technical knowledge, management discipline, strong leadership and organization skills, creativity and technical vision.
Desired Qualifications
  • Experience in medium to large IT and/or system implementation projects
  • Experience in dealing with clients at all levels of the organization
  • Experience in working with State of California Departments
Education, Certification, Training & Experience
  • Bachelor's degree in an IT-related or Engineering field or equivalent experience.
