Summary:

The Online Communications Coordinator and Web Developer leads the website conceptualization, development, implementation, and maintenance of the college’s websites. The position maintains a current understanding of modern web development principles, monitors web performance, and seeks to improve its performance and user satisfaction. This position will lead ongoing content revision and management of web content, and work to encourage a continuous supply of fresh and relevant content from other members of the college community. The Online Communications Coordinator and Web Developer contributes to a positive, collaborative, data-driven team environment with creativity and innovative solutions to problems by participating and leading initiatives in their area of expertise, meeting deadlines, creating sustainable work processes, and supporting the work of their colleagues in the department.

Responsibilities:

In addition to ensuring that Casper College’s Website and other digital/online sources provide the best user experience possible, the Online Communications Coordinator and Web Developer will coordinate with internal stakeholders to ensure website content is clear, accurate and up-to-date. This person will also help manage workflows and work closely with IT personnel, integrate all online/digital services into one analytics platform, and provide information and analysis that contributes to the engagement goals of the website and social media.

Essential Duties:

  • Provide creative and strategic communication leadership of the college’s website.

  • Design, code and modify the website to enhance the experience, user-friendliness and engagement with the website.

  • Collaborate with graphic design to enhance the visual communication elements to the website and all digital/online content.

  • Integrate data from the website and other digital online sources into one analytics platform.

  • Monitor, analyze and report on the effectiveness of college online activities to maximize audience engagement and performance to college goals.

  • Provide guidance, access, training and support to web content contributors and other faculty/staff throughout campus.

  • Work in collaboration with others in the department to ensure content delivery is implemented according to plan.

  • Assist in planning, creating and managing digital advertising campaigns in collaboration with department and college staff that meet the goals of the specific campaign and department.

  • Create all web pages as necessary by writing, publishing, adding images, video, scripting if needed and editing in accordance with Casper College’s Brand Standards and Style Guide.

  • Manage and evolve web content and architecture based on user input and changing technologies.

  • Stay abreast of industry trends and applicable technologies

  • Serve as project manager for college units as assigned. As project manager, monitor and anticipate needs, serve as primary contact, and attend meetings and events as appropriate.

  • Manage all projects and tasks using shared project management system to ensure coordination with PR colleagues.

  • Accomplish college goals by accepting ownership for accomplishing new and different requests; exploring opportunities to add value to job accomplishments.

  • Other duties as assigned.

Work Environment:

Typical work environment is an office setting requiring normal safety precautions. Non-routine occasional work may be spent around the community and various locations on campus. Short periods of time will be spent outdoors travelling between campus buildings in various weather conditions. Work is usually performed during the normal workday however, early morning, late evening and weekend work may be required. Occasional travel will be required. The noise level is usually minimal.

Physical Demands:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee must be able to sit and stand for long periods of time, speak, hear, use hands and fingers to handle materials and use computers, feel, and reach with hands and arms. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, and ability to adjust focus.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree

  • Minimum of three years professional level work experience in Web and multimedia communications

  • Skill in leadership, organization, customer service, problem solving, editing, and written and verbal communications

  • Ability to:

    • Write effectively for the web.

    • Instruct, train, guide, and motivate others.

    • Plan and organize work initiatives to successfully accomplish goals and objectives.

    • Work independently and with teams.

    • Think both critically and analytically.

    • Build intuitive, SEO friendly, and performance optimized websites.

    • Build themes from ground up as well as installing and customizing pre-existing themes.

    • Analyze existing code and make changes as needed.

    • Ability to communicate design decisions and user experience and interaction design principles and document in writing.

  • Knowledge of:

    • Current best practices in design and development of an accessibility-compliant website; ability to meet or exceed requirements of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973, Section 508.

    • Understanding of modern web development principles (e.g., layout grids, responsive design).

    • Proficiency with essential front-end languages: HTML, CSS (and familiar with SASS), JavaScript.

    • Experience with testing and debugging.

    • Experience monitoring sites' technical performance.

    • Use of internet for research purposes, as well as a thorough understanding of browser limitations and cross-browser compatibility issues.

    • Design Web pages with accompanying graphics.

    • Online content management systems (WordPress preferred).

    • Adobe Creative Suite and Microsoft Office.

    • Microsoft and Apple operating systems.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Two to five years of experience.

  • Experience with web analytics and SEO tools and techniques.

  • Understanding of higher education organizations.
