JOB SUMMARY:

Prepares for procedure(s) (emergent and non-emergent cases) according to individual patient needs including age specific needs across the age continuum.
  • Exhibits knowledge of instrument and equipment handling, utilization, and trouble shooting.
  • Responsible for safe and accurate handling of instruments and performs instrument, sponge, and equipment counts according to hospital policy, protocols, and procedures.
  • Comprehends and practices established guidelines of surgical asepsis and uses good judgment concerning correct techniques in performance of procedures.
  • Demonstrates dependable, organized work habits and positive interaction with all health care team members and hospital staff. Follows established chain of command.
  • Actively prepares clear, concise, and complete shift and patient records.
  • Ensures physician recipe card is up-to-date and preferred equipment is assembled for the procedure.
  • Energetically participates in room turn-a-around by cleaning and restocking room from previous case(s).
  • Adheres to universal precautions for all patients and dawns appropriate PPE when indicated.
  • Strictly participates in “Time Out Procedure,” according to approved current format.
  • Participates in activities and educational opportunities that provide professional growth and development.
  • Actively participates in hospital wide and departmental committees.
  • Actively participates and positively contributes to staff meetings.
  • Carries out processes designed to reduce risk and create a safe environment.
  • Presents an example in following policies, procedures and standards that govern delivery of patient care in compliance with established state, federal, corporate, hospital, and nursing department regulations and accreditation standards.
  • Adheres to the hospital’s policies and demonstrates compliance with the Code of Ethics.
  • Adheres to the hospital's Safety policies and demonstrates safe practices in patien care.

Minimum Requirements

Completion of Surgical Technology program or current enrollment with graduation pending in 90 days

American Red Cross or American Heart Association Basic Life Support Course (BLS or BCLS) and Certification Provided in New Employee Orientation

Strive for independence and self-governing in the operating room and the ability to provide care for two service lines.

Has frequent interaction with physician, nursing staff, ancillary departments, patients and their families.
