Dunaway Associates is looking for a Survey Party Chief in Austin!
OVERVIEW/JOB SUMMARY:
Plan, organize, and direct work of one survey party engaged in land surveying to determine precise location and measurements of points, elevations, lines, and areas to be used in the production of the final survey product
RESPONSIBILITIES:
JOB DUTIES:
Organize crew manpower and resources to perform assigned survey tasks quickly and efficiently
Manage daily work assignments/tasks of assigned field crew, including use of equipment, preparation of sketches and notes, and electronic data collection
Ensure field survey activities are performed in accordance with standards set by the company and industry standards of practice
Ensure crew’s adherence to all safety procedures and use of all required personal protective equipment
Daily communication with Chief of Parties and/or Survey Technician managing the field survey operations on which the Party Chief is working
Conduct daily data collector downloading
Prepare daily time sheets, data logs, and expense reports
Mentor and train Field Survey Assistants on daily tasks as needed
Provide input to Chief of Parties and Survey Line of Business Executive for the formal performance evaluation of crew members
Drive company vehicle to and from job sites and company premises when needed
Ensure survey truck receives proper routine maintenance and all vehicle fluids maintained as appropriate; keep maintenance logs of the vehicle current

Perform any other duties as assigned
QUALIFICATIONS:
KNOWLEDGE:
Knowledge of proper retracement of land boundaries
Introductory knowledge of Civil 3D and Trimble Business Center software
Familiarity with state plane coordinates systems and geodetic calculations
EDUCATION/REQUIREMENTS:
High school diploma or equivalent
Driver’s license and acceptable driving record
Level II Certified Survey Technician Certification (CST)
SKILLS:
Excellent leadership skills
Good interpersonal and communication skills
High attention to detail
Good analytical skills
Ability to work without direct day-to-day supervision and make technical and supervisory decisions for projects assigned within specified limits of authority
Proficient in using all required survey equipment
Proficient with mid-level math
Solid documentation skills (field notes and sketches)
EXPERIENCE:
Minimum of 3 years of experience working in and with a survey field crew
WORKING CONDITIONS:
Constantly works in outdoor weather conditions including extreme temperatures and grassy/rocky or steep terrain
Exposure to potentially harmful plants and wildlife
Must be able to walk, stand, kneel, bend, twist, squat, climb and reach while surveying project sites and operating survey equipment
Must be able to lift and carry axes, survey supplies, additional equipment weighing up to 50 pounds to/from and during job site visits
Must be able to use a brush axe, machete or hammer
Occasional travel requiring long-distance commutes, overnight stays, or temporary relocation near a job site
