Summary
The incumbent will serve as a scientific grant writer and will be responsible for identifying, preparing, writing, and submitting multiple grant proposals in collaboration with the ANA committees and key ANA; and prepare supporting documentation and reports to meet grant guidelines. Funders include private, federal, state, and corporate partners. The incumbent will assist with identifying funding opportunities and engage both internal and external resources throughout the pre-award and development process, while adhering to the vision and mission of the ANA.
Key Responsibilities Include:
Writing neurology and neuroscience proposals, for a diverse array of grants for ANA programs (i.e. Annual Meeting, Translational & Clinical Research Course, ANA On Demand Education, etc.)
Managing the grant writing lifecycle including grant reconciliation in collaboration with the Accreditation & Education
Collaborating closely with ANA Executive Committee, Scientific Program Advisory Committee, Executive Director and Accreditation & Education Manager to aggressively develop grants
Researching potential funding sources on an ongoing basis to meet funding priorities and evaluates viability of funding announcements
Developing and maintain knowledge of important clinical issues and industry trends in central nervous system therapeutic areas
Maintain a centralized calendar of funding deadlines and opportunities shared with the staff office & invite alignment with significant ANA program and initiative timelines (e.g., podcast episode release dates, meetings, etc.)
Essential Skills:
Excellent written communication skills, including writing, editing, and proofreading
Capability to adapt editorial style based on the target audience
Expert at Microsoft Office; familiarity with G-Suite applications a plus
Astute listener with excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate with diverse groups of professionals
Expert at working well under pressure with short timelines and at meeting critical completion deadlines, managing simultaneous grant applications
Ability to successfully work independently as well as thrive in a goal-oriented, dynamic, team-based environment
Find creative solutions and make good decisions based on experience and analysis
Establish rapport with key players, and work under pressure with team to meet deadlines
Ability to access ProposalCentral to view/obtain materials
Strong organizational skills
Ability to integrate feedback rapidly
Minimum Qualifications:
Master of Science in life sciences with a focus on disease of the CNS
Extensive successful grant proposal development/writing required
A minimum of 5 years’ experience as a scientific writer
Additional Experience Preferred:
Experience securing annual funding targets >$300K
Experience on review committees, preferably as a reviewer
Experience in scientific writing in CNS disease-related fields
Compensation: $50,000 per year
