Fabricator/Welder (Anchorage, Alaska)

The Municipality of Anchorage, Alaska is in search of an experienced and highly skilled Heavy Equipment Fabricator/Welder. Perform journeyman level mechanic and welding duties on light vehicles and heavy equipment. Knowledgeable with all types of welding and fabricating techniques' Mig, Tig, brazing, shielded metal ark, carbon ark, plasma, etc. Set up and operate a variety of general and specialized welding equipment. Design and fabricate projects from simple in nature to extremely complex by design. Remove/disassemble minor/major welding projects, lay out materials, cut welds or fabricate components needed to make permanent repairs, and reassemble items needed to complete the task. Inspect vehicles and equipment to determine the extent of repair work required. Initiate parts replacement orders. Possess knowledge of all phases of component repair: engines, trans, drive train, etc. Perform mechanical duties requiring the operation and use of a wide variety of hand and power-driven tools and Specialize CNC equipment, etc. Ensure the quality and expediency of all work performed. Inventory and order shop supplies, steel, oxygen-acetylene, argon, C02, etc. Must provide own tools for the trade. Perform other related duties as assigned.
