Cost Accountant

DescriptionManufacturing plant on the NW outskirts of Houston, TX. This position is accountable for the ongoing analysis of process constraints, target costing projects, margin analysis, and tracing costs back to underlying activities. The cost accountant must also construct and monitor data accumulation systems needed to provide an appropriate level of costing information to management. Duties include: Cost AccountingStandard costing including the updating of the bill of materialsStandard vs. actual cost analysisEstablishing and maintaining appropriate reserves for inventory as neededAbility to execute physical inventory and related variance analysisBudgeting of costsAccumulate and apply overhead costs as required by generally accepted accounting principlesInvestigate cycle counting variances and resolve issuesValidate the cost of goods sold as part of the month-end close Other AccountingAbility to work on other general accounting projects in support of month end closeAbility to interact with internal and external audit teamsExperience with general journal entries Data CollectionConstruct data accumulation systems for a cost accounting systemCreate and review the controls needed for data accumulation and reporting systems AnalysisConduct ongoing process constraint analysesReport on breakeven points by products, work centers, and factoriesReport on margins by product and divisionReport on periodic variances and their causes, focusing in particular on spending variancesRequirements3+ years experience in accountingStandard Cost AccountingBachelors Degree in AccountingSAP experienceAbility to travel and work multiple sites around the cityKnowledge of GAAP, FASB, and SOXRobert Half Finance & Accounting, the world's leader in specialized financial staffing, provides exciting full-time opportunities in the areas of accounting, bookkeeping, finance, audit, taxation and more.
