A place where we will challenge ourselves, our teams, and the status quo and where we will work to find a way – the right way – to achieve what others can only dream of.This position is for a highly motivated manager to lead a team of 15+ software engineers whose charter is to design and develop embedded software for mission equipment for the Naval Air Systems Command post.This software team works on equipment which prepares aircraft mission communication and processing systems in a mission-ready state and enables the fleet to collect and process mission data from the aircraft removable digital media. The equipment also functions to update user account information post-mission logging. Mission critical data processed by the system is managed up to the Top Secret level.This candidate will guide a team of engineers to make design trade-offs and ensure high quality work product results. This team will take requirements and translate these artifacts into well informed software designs. Team members will produce high quality code reflective of the design which fulfills the requirements. The team will follow well defined software processes and coding standards.A successful candidate must be able to apply their technical expertise to train and coach their team members to achieve program goals and support career development for each member of the team. Focus will also include process compliance as well as improvement.The expectation is that day-to-day time will be spent on performance management, employee development, talent acquisition/retention, and strategic support of the business.In order to be successful in this role, the candidate must have first-hand practical software engineering experience and be able to perform or provide guidance to engineering team members in the following areas:

Technical direction - candidate must be able to direct the utilization of advanced principles, theories, and concepts for products and software development.

Program technical and execution planning - candidate must be able to guide team members on the creation of system engineering plans, execution baselines, program execution and staffing plans, and technical risk assessments in support of customer expectations and business objectives.

Project management - candidate must be able to remain cognizant of, as well as guide team members on, the management of scope, schedule and budget for software engineering activities; candidate must be well versed in using Earned Value Management System (EVMS) performance measurement; candidate must be able to assign and coordinate staffing.

Process management - candidate must be able to guide team members on the utilization of internal engineering processes and provide assurance that the software engineering activities are consistent with the requirements for product security, safety, testability, reliability, maintainability, performance, qualification and certification.

Bid and proposal - candidate must be able to lead, review, and provide guidance to team members on bid and proposal activities for pursuits.

Personnel administration - candidate must be able to perform hiring, performance assessment and personnel issue management for a team of technical staff members.

Candidate will lead the engineering team using strong interaction, interpersonal, mentoring and negotiating skills, and will be responsible for managing project risks/issues and elevating to upper management when appropriate. In addition, the candidate will be responsible for adhering to, and supporting Collins Aerospace process methodologies while developing and managing commitments to meet project financial and schedule deliverables and quality requirements.Basic Qualifications

US Citizenship

Must possess or be eligible for obtaining a U.S. DoD Secret Clearance. U.S. Citizenship is required. Candidate selected will be subject to a government security investigation/re-instatement and must meet eligibility requirements.

This position requires a Bachelor’s degree in the appropriate discipline and 8 years of relevant experience or an Advanced degree in the appropriate discipline and 5 years of relevant experience. In the absence of a degree, 12 years of relevant experience is required.

Practical experience in all aspects/phases of product development

Previous experience as a Project Engineer and/or CAM

Previous software development experience

Preference will be given to candidates that possess the following:

Experience in development of applications software (Java) to support military airborne platforms

Experience in virtual machines or database management

Experience in code analysis tools (Ex. LDRA & Coverity)

Direct experience in development of software bid and proposal efforts

Experience/knowledge with software development methods such as Iterative or Agile
