Job Description

FUJIFILM Cellular Dynamic, Inc. in Madison, WI is recruiting for the Director, iPSC Platform. Ideal candidates will have professional experiences and interests in both pluripotent stem cell biology and people management. The successful applicant will have a strong presence and leadership in the development, banking and use of human induced pluripotent stem cells (iPSCs) for a variety of products, services and therapies. Essential Job Functions

  • Direct and manage company-wide iPSC platform strategy, landscape IP and pursuit, business development evaluations.

  • Direct and lead a team of qualified professionals – with focused achievement on the following to include but not limited to: Derivation, qualification and banking of new human iPSC lines for both therapeutic and non-therapeutic use; development, validation or optimization of QC/QA methods for high quality iPSCs; facilitate a deep understanding of reprogramming, establishment and maintenance of pluripotent status of iPSC lines; Oversee technology transfer of large-scale banking to the cGMP manufacturing resources and partners, implementing process improvements as required, and; write and/or review protocols, technical reports, and SOPs, and develop appropriate documentation for iPSC derivation, qualification, banking and distribution

  • Collaborate and communicate program status, initiatives, roadblocks and plans with Senior Management to achieve project and organizational objectives.

  • Act as a liaison with all essential internal functional groups and external collaborators, partners, consultants, CROs, and clinicians as required.

  • Write and assemble regulatory documentation in preparation for clinical trials, as required.

  • In collaboration with project management office - manage and communicate project timelines and budget performance to project stakeholders.

  • Design and execute on experimental plans to achieve project goals within defined scope.

  • Participate and represent FCDI in public, internal committees, and related meetings for iPSC standardization.

  • Select, develop, train and retain capable staff of research and development professionals to ensure all aspects of the platform objectives and timelines are achieved.

  • Test and implement process improvements, including scale-up technologies.

  • Evaluate platform technologies and suggest potential technologies for in-licensing or partnership.

  • Serve as a subject matter expert related to iPSC platform technology.

  • Other job functions as assigned.

Qualifications

  • PhD in stem cell biology, molecular biology, biochemistry, pharmacology, biomedical engineering, or related field

  • 5 years of additional and relevant experience in stem cell biology in the pharmaceutical industry or bio-tech venture, or with a CRO supporting drug research and development – to include managing human ESC or iPSC culture for production or banking with demonstrated achievements and progressive responsibilities.

  • 2 years of project or program leadership/management achieving timelines and budget targets, ideally within an iPSC environment

  • Proficient in R&D planning and project execution

  • Track-record of applying intellectual curiosity – identifying new technical skills, applications, and business opportunities

  • Demonstrated leadership capabilities to include team development, managing through adversity, effective communication across all levels of stakeholders to include external parties, all with a strategic outlook and ability to defend research positions while achieving program objectives

  • Demonstrated proficiency in managing multiple projects, and changing priorities meet timelines and budgets

  • Overnight and international travel – 10%

  • Ability to work some weekends and off-hours work

  • Able to work at computer for extended periods of time
