POSITION: Coordinator of Communications and Marketing

JOB OBJECTIVEThe Coordinator of Communications and Marketing informs internal and external stakeholders and engages in strategic, targeted communications and public relations in support of District initiatives and school programs for the advancement of student learning, achievement, and success.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS-Develop and implement a planned, systematic communications program.-Develop and implement special topic communication plans.-Plan and promote District-level initiatives and special events through schools and departments.-Write news releases and articles for various publications for both internal and external audiences.-Monitor news media; develop/maintain relationships with reporters and other media representatives, and coordinate news stories involving the District.-Maintain news, special announcements, and current content on District website.-Grow District social media presence.-Plan, write, and review District news/e-news and announcements for various audiences.-Coordinate and manage crisis communications.-Enhance skills and practices through professional development and learning.-Advise/assist District staff on public information needs, requirements, and limitations.-Manage budget allocated for communications and public information.-Develop public engagement processes that involve stakeholders in appropriate and meaningful levels of participation.-Lead the “Service” strand in the Whole Child-Whole Wausau strategic plan (2019-2023)-Lead the District’s School Calendar Committee.Facilitate Annual 25-Year Club & Retirement Banquet Planning Committee-Coordinate annual/regular District-wide events including Annual 25-Year Club & Retirement Banquet.Facilitate Resolution of Commendation Committee and oversee ROC Program.-Coordinate community, parent, staff, and student surveys.-Coordinate E-Flyers Program.-Liaison to non-profit organizations.-Provide consultant services to staff members by reviewing and/or producing brochures, newsletters, programs, special events, and other public relations materials.-Represent the District at community, state, and national functions as requested by the Superintendent of Schools.Recognize significant personal events of staff members.

WORK EXPERIENCE/REQUIREMENTS-Minimum 5 years experience in educational or public relations arenas, having demonstrated strong public relations planning and implementation skills.-Significant experience dealing with multiple stakeholder groups.-Knowledge and understanding of public education strengths, opportunities, and challenges is highly desired.-Ability to organize and implement multiple projects concurrently.-Experience in skillfully organizing and executing strategic communications and information campaigns.-Knowledge and understanding of branding and its use in marketing and communication.-Understand and use public opinion research in creating plans.-Experience working with creative vendors to develop marketing communications materials.-Creative and customer focused, positive attitude, self-directed, comfortable working individually or in teams.-Excellent interpersonal communication skills; including listening, oral communication, written communication, critical thinking, and problem solving.-Proactive outreach to a variety of stakeholders with various interests while maintaining neutrality.

WORKING RELATIONSHIP:-Must be able to work with a wide variety of groups including, but not limited to, staff, students, parents, School Board members, community members, business and industry, non-profit organizations, media representatives, legislators, or other groups or organizations seeking information or assistance on District issues, policies, and procedures.-Supervises: Communications Assistant and Longfellow Administration Center receptionists. May also direct subcontracted work as needed to complete assigned projects.-Supervised by: Superintendent of Schools-Member of the Longfellow Administrative Team

EDUCATION-A bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in journalism, public relations, communications, education, public administration or a related field is required.-Experience working or volunteering in public schools is desirable.-Master’s degree in a related field is desirable.

LICENSINGA valid Wisconsin driver’s license is desired.
