Reports to: Program Manager of Crisis Services in San Luis Obispo

Position Summary:

The Crisis Stabilization Unit (CSU) Nursing Supervisor sets the tone for the unit, maintaining at all times the mission of providing good client care within a milieu of wellness and recovery.

He/she is responsible for all duties expected of RNs, LVNs, LPTs working on the Crisis Stabilization Unit e.g. medication dispensing, client interaction and documentation.

Additional responsibilities include: staff needs, schedule maintenance, recruitment, hiring, training and disciplinary actions, as needed; client and staff safety; effective and cordial interaction with the county therapeutic community and other county stakeholders, oversite and auditing of medication room.

Major Duties & Responsibilities:

· Oversight of the CSU as related to the adherence to CSU policies and procedures.

· Attendance at regularly scheduled CSU related meetings, and attendance at unscheduled meetings related to specific CSU events.

· CSU Program liaison to SLOBH and local hospitals.

· Consult with SMWG administration crisis director regarding program issues as needed.

Supervision of staff for quality of client care and appropriate documentation.

Uphold a standard of care that is consistent with the CSU philosophy of the potential for wellness and recovery.

Assist staff in identifying ways of interacting more effectively with clients.

Provide and facilitate an atmosphere of respect and cooperation toward clients and amongst staff.

Demonstrate and facilitate a cooperative and helpful atmosphere amongst the members of the entire Crisis Response Team and all our collaborative partners, including SLOBH, and our on-call psychiatrists.

Provide sufficient training of new nursing staff

Monitor that safety requirements are being met and reporting any repair needs to the appropriate staff or maintenance personnel.

Assist staff with scheduling and staffing issues.

Review staff timesheets on an ongoing basis, and approve timesheets each pay period.

Other related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications and Characteristics:

BSN Preferred with current RN License in California; also needs current CPR certification.

Minimum preferred five (5) years of experience in supervision of staff, preferably in a non-profit, multi-funded human services agency.

Demonstrated skills in case management and discharge planning.

Demonstrated ability to facilitate communication between/among multiple entities.

Essential Physical & Mental Functions:

Must be able to function independently and have flexibility, personal integrity and the ability to work effectively with residents, staff and support agencies.

Must be able to relate to and work with ill, disabled, elderly, emotionally upset and at times hostile people.

Ability to be available for on-call work shifts and after hours support.

Ability to speak and communicate clearly in person, over the telephone, and in groups.

Ability to travel among program sites and community locations, possess a valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record.

Ability to operate office equipment such as computers, copier equipment, facsimile and telephone.
