Texas Health Harris Methodist Hospital Fort Worth seeks to hire a Spanish Language Interpreter to work full time in their Patient Advocate Department.The address is 1301 Pennsylvania Ave., Fort Worth, TX 76104.Salary range is Minimum $19.94/hr. to Maximum $28.61/hr. – based on relevant experienceWork Schedule:

Full Time; 40 hours

Variable days; 6:30 PM – 6:30 AM and 1 day 1:00 AM – 6:30 AM

Job Description:

Facilitate clinical communication between clinicians and LEP patients and family members using accurate verbal interpreting and if applicable, sight-translation skills. Assists staff and patients during routine and non-routine patient care activities in the hospital such as, but not limited to, patient assessment, admission process, patient education, discharge processes, discharge instructions, accessing/using pharmacy, etc. Acts as cultural and language liaison and resource to the hospital to provide effective communication and services to patients. Follows guidelines of interpreter's professional code of ethics" to a clearer set of guidelines, such as the Code of Ethics and Standards of Practice from the National Council on Interpreting in Healthcare (NCIHC).

With guidance and supervision from the clinician, assists with special health awareness and health literacy projects such as targeted educational programs, awareness of medication such as prescriptions use and medication adherence, understanding care routines and managing chronic conditions, etc. Assist with patient education processes, as needed. Provides care coordination (guiding, assisting with documentation and navigation), as required with supervision.

Provides clinicians with culture specific information and educational insights for the care delivery processes for that specific population. Must maintain accurate documentation for clinical encounters and/or case notes for interpretation and other cultural and care communication encounters. Provides appropriate consultation, education to staff, coordination, technical expertise and support on language related projects to entity stakeholders and work actively with community initiatives focused on the designated patient populations, as assigned under guidance from the Director.

QualificationsThe ideal candidate will possess the following qualifications:

H.S. Diploma or Equivalent Required

Completion of Catholic Charities Community Interpreting program or any equivalent interpreter qualifying program preferred

Associates or Bachelor’s degree preferred

2 years related work experience in language interpretation or bilingual customer service, preferably in the hospital environment required

6 months interpreter experience in a healthcare environment highly preferred

License and Certifications:

National Professional Certification credentials (such as the CCHI Certified Healthcare Interpreter (AHI - CHI), preferred and a plus

Skills:

Bilingual or Multilingual skills preferred with proficiency in English and one or more foreign languages both oral and written.

Strong medical vocabulary including commonly used terms and concepts related to the human body, symptoms, illness, medications, healthcare specialties, treatment and technical expressions in each language.

Good Interpersonal skills

Ability to communicate effectively with a diverse group of professionals ranging from front line staff to clinicians.
