Vermont Youth Development Corps members promote hope, justice, & wellbeing for all VT youth. Their service supports innovative initiatives at nonprofit organizations, municipalities, and schools that foster positive youth development and build resilience in youth, helping them avoid opioid use and other unhealthy behaviors.

Essex CHIPS is a dynamic non-profit serving youth and families with innovative programs, civic engagement opportunities, and initiatives geared toward improving community health and wellbeing. The Youth Engagement Coordinator AmeriCorps members support Essex CHIPS’ essential youth programs, including the Essex Teen Center and Tween Center after school programs. Within these programs, the members plan and lead activities that engage youth in creative ways including being physically active, creating healthy snacks, and volunteering in their community.

The members also build relationships with Essex High School students, community partners, and families to promote awareness of CHIPS as a community resource. The members may participate as leaders for the Adventure Orientation Program, and as mentors and/or support an expansion of the mentoring program. The members assist in coordinating CHIPS events, conduct program outreach, and may serve as contact for groups who use the Teen Center for events.
