Join a team that has its pulse on the future of aerospace and watch your career take flight.Role Overview:The Technical Writer for Pilot/Flight Manuals position includes, but is not limited to, authoring complete Pilot/Operator technical publications related to aircraft systems and components, typically comprised of avionics, communication, navigation, flight control, audio, flight management, information processing, displays, diagnostic, and surveillance products. This person would ideally sit in Cedar Rapids, Iowa but there is a potential to work remote in California, Texas, Ohio, New York, Massachusetts, Virginia, Georgia, Florida, Illinois, Washington, Minnesota, Alabama, Maryland, Missouri, Oklahoma, or North Carolinafor the right candidate.Primary Responsibilities:

Liaises with product developers, engineers, mechanics and other technical experts, observes production methods, and refers to technical specifications, blueprints, engineering illustrations, and trade journals to acquire knowledge needed to develop Flight Manuals, Pilot Guides, and associated publications.

Participates in determining objectives of assignments. Plans, schedules, and arranges own activities in accomplishing objectives. Work is reviewed upon completion.

Prepares publication outlines and estimates to support development and planning.

Researches, analyzes, and translates technical information and specifications into government and commercial Flight Manuals, Pilot Guides, and other documents for non-technical and technical users.

Ability to negotiate change management associated with fluid concurrent development.

Accountable for cost, quality, and timely delivery of all work assignments.

Accountable for timely, accurate, and thorough project communication.

Establishes and maintains internal and external company contacts to support publications development for Collins Aerospace equipment and specific platforms.

Assists in the development of department policies, guidelines, and procedures to ensure quality and cost control.

Qualifications:

This position requires a Bachelor’s degree in the appropriate discipline and 5 years of relevant experience or an Advanced degree in the appropriate discipline and 3 years of relevant experience. In the absence of a degree, 9 years of relevant experience is required.

Ability to obtain a security clearance (Requires US Citizenship)

Preferred Qualifications:

5 years flight experience as a Pilot/Co-Pilot/Flight Navigator on commercial or military platform(s).

Working knowledge of Communication, Navigation, and Surveillance (CNS) systems and integration on a Pilot Vehicle Interface (PVI).

Experience in production and/or using Flight Manuals and Pilot Guides in the instruction and use of CNS and/or PVI architecture. o Experience using or operating aircraft avionics equipment and systems. o Ability to understand and comprehend system and flight operations from typical engineering documentation. o High literacy in structured authoring (SGML, XML) environment. o Experience with developing publications in ArborText Editor, Adobe FrameMaker, and MS Word. o Knowledge of industry (ATA-2200/2300, S1000D) and military writing specifications.

Professional attitude toward work assignments, customer relationships, and company/department goals and vision. o High interpersonal communication skills, and must be able to present material effectively to both internal and external customers.
