Our community is a tight knit group of remarkable individuals interested in intellectual inquiry and making a difference in the world.RequirementsTraffic Controller, Office of Transportation Management - Georgetown University Main CampusThe Traffic Controller is responsible for monitoring and enforcing University parking and traffic rules and regulations including issuing citations and removing vehicles that hinder safety and are in violation of regulations. Duties include, but are not limited to:

Responsible for enforcing University parking and traffic regulations to provide for public safety and to ensure availability of parking spaces for registered parkers, authorized visitors and University vehicles.

Patrols University roadways, parking garages and surface lots.Issues citations to vehicles parked in fire lanes or other improperly parked vehicles on University grounds.

Removes or boots vehicles with three or more citations.

Under the authority of the director, the front staff (when necessary lead bus drivers) may direct traffic controllers to provide motorist assistance, resolve traffic situations and pickup as well as deliver packages to various University offices.

Responsible for operating and maintaining tow trucks, pick up trucks and similar equipment as well as hand tools for purpose of patrolling University grounds and for booting and moving illegally parked vehicles.

Fix broken gate arms, general maintenance of gate equipment and minor register adjustments.

Responsible for maintaining records of daily activities including citations issued, vehiclesremoved/booted and vehicle maintenance activities to provide for accurate tracking of enforcement and other activities.

Responsible for providing assistance and information to University community members and visitors to the University to encourage a positive University image.

Explains Universityparking and transportation regulations and services. Gives directions to University buildings.

Responsible for providing motorist assistance such as jump starts, flat repairs and towing to a legal space. And other duties as assigned that benefit the department overall.

Qualifications

High School Diploma or GED is required.

Experience in operating a tow truck preferred.

Must have experience in customer service. Or any equivalent combination of training and experience.

Must possess valid DC, VA or MD driver’s license.

Incumbent is subject to random and for cause drug and alcohol testing. This position may require the incumbent to operate University commercial vehicles with a gross vehicle weight rating of 10K+ (e.g., tow trucks, box trucks, trash trucks, buses, lifts, etc.). As such, the incumbent must possess a medical card and/or certificate issued by the Department of Transportation (DOT), which is issued by a licensed “medical examiner,” after completion of a DOT physical examination as defined in GU Policy 1017 and DOT Regulations 391.11 (4) – Medical Card/Certificate and 390.5 (1) – Commercial Motor Vehicles (10K+) Definitions (http://www.fmcsa.dot.gov).Current Georgetown Employees:If you currently work at Georgetown University, please exit this website and login to GMS (gms.georgetown.edu) using your Net ID and password.
