Job Description

The Roll Maintenance Technicianis responsible for general machine repair and maintenance with an emphasis on the repair, tracking, and inventory control of critical and non-critical machine rollers. This includes knowledge of and involvement in troubleshooting and diagnosing of product quality issues related to out of spec or damaged machine rollers. The Roll Maintenance Technicianis responsible for the training of others in regards to roll prep and roll repair techniques.This training includes the coordination of workflow for repairable machine rollers and all related paperwork and/or database entries. Will be a primary contact for vendors and suppliers for Rollers.

This role will be day shift Monday - Friday.

Primary Job Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Recognize the need for and use the safe work permit and hold your teammates accountable for the same.
  • Respond to trouble calls in a timely and effective manner and restore flow with an emphasis on safe work practices, quality of workmanship, and root cause problem resolution.
  • Identify and implement best practices that will improve the overall safety and effectiveness of the maintenance team and the organization overall.
  • Maintain ownership of Roll Repair administrative responsibilities, i.e., changes to roll cover specifications, interactions with vendors, manage roll inventory with assistance from collateral duty team members.
  • Train collateral duty maintenance repair shift technicians on the roll maintenance function across all other 12-hour teams.
  • Review, provide, enter data, and/or assign members to do so in the ARSC system for all restore flow efforts defined as “Maintenance Fix” events.
  • Complete housekeeping and 5S assigned initiatives aimed at meeting and sustaining established goals.
  • Identify and take part in problem solving teams and root cause analysis of failure modes striving for level three or four problem resolution whenever possible.
  • Support the plant’s 5-S, housekeeping, ELS projects and recycling programs.
  • Uphold and support our plant management and operating principles and values and the “Maintenance Rules of Engagement.”
  • Coordinate and track repair or replacement of rollers with roller vendors and suppliers. This includes inspection of incoming rolls to specifications.
  • Track status of rollers, inspection, coordinate roller repair, and planned roller replacement
  • Provide input and expertise with Engineering and Technical teams related to the change or modification of roller type or roller configuration on machines.
  • Recommend, plan, and execute both preventative and restore-flow machine roll changes and/or repairs.

Qualifications

    Minimum requirements:

    • High School Diploma or equivalent.
    • Served in Roll Maintenance Collateral Duty responsibility for 24 months or greater.
    • 3-5 years of machine repair experience in a similar manufacturing/production environment.
    • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
    • Have general knowledge of and be able to work with computers and basic computer programs, i.e., Excel, Word, Access, MP2.

    • Must demonstrate the ability to develop, follow and enforce known safe work practices.
    • Must be able to actively contribute in a team based environment encouraging open communication and positive interaction with peers and management to effectively reach a common goal.
    • Must have a strong service and quality focus and be able to address issues effectively when problems arise, take initiative to understand root cause, then communicate/educate others in a timely manner.
    • Must have demonstrated record of flexibility and dependability in order to support production and customer focus.
    • Must have a strong detail oriented mindset and be able to follow written and oral instruction.
    • Must be able to lift / push / pull up to 50 lbs.

    Preferred requirements:

    • Associates Degree in Industrial Maintenance Technology, or related Journeyman certification.
    • Demonstrated ability to approach and coach teammates in regards to:

      • Safe work practices,
      • Quality of workmanship
      • Overall customer service.

    • Demonstrated ability to know and teach problem solving techniques and how they are applied.
    • Self-directed with demonstrated situational leadership.
    • Project Management and Time Management skills.
