Software Development Manager - AWS Capacity Forecasting, AWS Demand Forecasting
Washington, Seattle-tacoma , 98101 Seattle-tacoma USA

DESCRIPTION Job summaryWho we are: We own the forecasting and planning tools used to scale the AWS cloud. Our capacity planning tools forecast service demand and overhead to protect the AWS customer experience and eliminate waste. Our optimization problems range from forecasting for multiple services out years in the future to automating hourly capacity management decisions within EC2. We use operations research techniques to standardize, automate, and optimize the management of billions of dollars of AWS capacity. We are successful when AWS customers have the capacity they need at continuously lower cost. Why it matters: In 2015, AWS deployed almost enough server capacity every day to support Amazon in 2005, when it was an $8.49B enterprise. The number of server platforms and number of availability zones has exploded over the years. To scale with this growth, we must continuously innovate in our forecasting and planning systems to increase accuracy, automation, and auditability. With this growth, we must also plan how to retire our obsolete and unused hardware. The systems you'll own sit at the integration point of this innovation. Your ability to incorporate and even accelerate the innovation materially impacts the millions of customers and developers around the world who rely on AWS services. Why you'll love it: You'll see all aspects of the AWS business, from new hardware designs to enterprise sales deals to data center operations. You'll work directly with leaders from across these areas to formulate and execute your team's roadmap. You'll be part of a growing, fast paced, and fun team with real ownership, not just responsibility. Inclusive Team CultureHere at AWS, we embrace our differences. We are committed to furthering our culture of inclusion. We have ten employee-led affinity groups, reaching 40,000 employees in over 190 chapters globally. We have innovative benefit offerings, and host annual and ongoing learning experiences, including our Conversations on Race and Ethnicity (CORE) and AmazeCon (gender diversity) conferences. Amazon's culture of inclusion is reinforced within our 14 Leadership Principles, which remind team members to seek diverse perspectives, learn and be curious, and earn trust.Work/Life BalanceOur team puts a high value on work-life balance. It isn't about how many hours you spend at home or at work; it's about the flow you establish that brings energy to both parts of your life. We believe striking the right balance between your personal and professional life is critical to life-long happiness and fulfillment. We offer flexibility in working hours and encourage you to find your own balance between your work and personal lives.Mentorship & Career GrowthOur team is dedicated to supporting new members. We have a broad mix of experience levels and tenures, and we're building an environment that celebrates knowledge sharing and mentorship. Our senior members enjoy one-on-one mentoring and thorough, but kind, code reviews. We care about your career growth and strive to assign projects based on what will help each team member develop into a better-rounded engineer and enable them to take on more complex tasks in the futureKeywords:Forecasting, Statistics, Machine Learning, Optimization, Inventory Management, Supply Chain Management, AWS, Cloud, Cloud Computing, EC2, S3, EBS, DynamoDB, Java, C, object oriented, Java, distributed systems, high availability, scalability, concurrentAmazon is an Equal Opportunity-Affirmative Action Employer - Minority / Female / Disability / Veteran / Gender Identity / Sexual Orientation.
