DESCRIPTION Job summaryThe AWS Identity team builds the secure identity, access, and resource management foundation for customers to scale in the AWS Cloud. By joining the AWS Identity team, you will work on massively scalable, core technologies used for authentication and authorization to all AWS services, such as Amazon Elastic Compute Cloud (Amazon EC2), Amazon Simple Storage Service (Amazon S3), and Amazon DynamoDB. The AWS Identity team's mission is to build, operate, and innovate the identity, authentication, and authorization stack for the AWS Cloud. As part of this mission, our team aims to simplify and secure the onboarding and integration experiences for Identity services across all AWS service teams. In addition, our team actively ensures that all AWS service teams follow a consistently high standard of authentication and authorization. We develop our products in small teams by using modern software development methods and technologies. We strive to create high-quality, scalable, and usable products. Our standard workflows consist of automated testing, peer reviews, and continuous deployment. We are seeking a senior software development engineer with a passion for building highly reliable, intuitive, and feature-rich services to be used by all AWS service teams. We are embarking on projects to create new systems to streamline AWS service integration with Identity services. You will function as a technical leader who has strong influence on software and system architecture. You also will lead and inspire other engineers to build solutions on a large scale, own your systems end to end, and have positive impact on all AWS services.You should be interested in delivering high-performance and secure systems in a distributed environment. You should be excellent in working across functional teams. You also should be self-motivated and a team player, and be able to communicate clearly and inspire others to influence and work with services across AWS. You also should be a strong technical contributor who understands the big picture, operational aspects, and architecture of our code. Your responsibilities will include working with teams across AWS to insist on higher security standards, defining and designing the service architecture, and leading the effort to build foundational services that offer the best integration experience with Identity services. BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

  • 4+ years of professional software development experience
  • 3+ years of programming experience with at least one software programming language
  • 2+ years of experience contributing to the system design or architecture (architecture, design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and current systems
  • Experience as a mentor, tech lead OR leading an engineering team
A passion for designing and developing simple solutions to complex and ambiguous problems A deep understanding of large distributed and online systems PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS MS or PhD degree in Computer Science or related fields Experience with very large distributed systems, such as large-scale distributed database systems, storage farms, or horizontally scaled request processing fleets Development expertise in OOP, Java, UNIX, Python, XML, Web services, and UNIX tools Excellent oral and written communication skills Track record for being detail-oriented with a demonstrated ability to motivate yourself and follow through on projects Relentlessly high standards (never satisfied with the status quo) Ability to dive deep but never be out of touch with the details of the business Experience running and maintaining a 24x7 production environmentAmazon is committed to a diverse and inclusive workplace.
