The primary purpose of your job position is to provide direct resident care under the supervision of the charge nurse. The Certified Nursing Assistant follows established facility guidelines while providing and coordinating resident care with other facility personnel. As a Certified Nursing Assistant, you are delegated the administrative authority, responsibility, and accountability necessary for carrying out your assigned duties.

Major Responsibilities

1. Answers call lights and responds to resident needs in a timely manner.

2. Provides for personal hygiene needs, including:

bath (complete, partial, tub/shower, Sitz, and skin care

linen changes according to standard guidelines

oral hygiene/denture care . hair care/shampoo

PM care, including skin care and changing or straightening of linen

3. Assists in the preparation, serving, and feeding of the correct diet, to the

appropriate resident.

4. Changes bed linen in the appropriate manner, and is knowledgeable in techniques

for making an occupied and unoccupied bed.

5. Admits residents and assists with the adjustment of new residents to the facility, including:

Orients residents to their rooms, including bathroom, closet and storage

space

Demonstrates the use of bed controls (as applicable) and nurse call light

Explains the facility schedule.

Introduces residents to their roommates.

Cares for and/or stores resident's valuables.

Obtains vital signs every shift for the first 72 hours.

Provide resident with admission supplies.

Assists resident to undress and unpack, as necessary.

6. Transfer resident in a room change, including:

Packing belongings

Checking possession list

Assisting in transportation

7. Assists in discharge of resident including:

Completing the inventory form

Packing and moving personal belongings

Assisting resident with dressing

Transport resident

8. Provides postmortem care.

9. Obtains vital signs; temperature (oral, otic, rectal, axillary); pulse (radial);

respiration; and blood pressures.

10. Turns and repositions residents, using the appropriate repositioning devices.

11. Provides bowel and bladder care including: . Assists resident to the bathroom and/or in the use of bed side commode and

urinal/bedpan. Follows the bowel/bladder plan of care. Gives enemas (fleet, saline, soap suds, oil retention and tap water). Provides catheter care.

Collects stool/urine specimens.

Provides care to incontinent residents.

Assists in the care of residents with colostomies, ileostomies, and

ileoconduits.

12. Empties drainage from tubes: NG tubes in low suction, throat suction bottles, as

assigned

13. Provides appropriate body mechanics and positioning, assisting in activities to

maintain maxiinum body functions.

14. Utilizes appropriate safety devices and precautions, including use of transfer

belts, lifting equipment, and safe lifting techniques.

15. Observes and reports to the charge nurse and signs and symptoms of physical,

emotional and spiritual distress.

16. Documents vital signs, intakes and outputs, catheter care, weights, BM's, and

results of restorative interventions on the resident's chart.

17. Performs other duties as assigned.

Knowledge Skills and Abilities

Knowledge of basic aid practices and protocols.

Ability to provide personal care for the frail elderly and for acute, chronic and terminally ill patients.

Ability to be called back and return to work when situations deem it necessary,

Ability to wear and use a Gait Belt at all times.

Ability to read, write, speak, and understand the English language.

Ability to relate information concerning a resident's condition.

Ability not to pose a direct threat to the health or safety of other individuals in the work place.

Skill in the use of the sight/hearing senses or use of prosthetics that will enable these senses to function adequately so that the requirements of the position can be fully met

Ability to meet the general health requirements set forth by the guidelines of the facility, which include a medical and physical examination.

Ability to push, pull, move and/or lift a minimum of 25 pounds to a minimum height of three feet and be able to push , pull, move, and/or cairy such weight a minimum distance of three feet.

Exposure Level

It is highly likely that while performing the essential functions of this position you will be exposed to blood or body fluids.

Minimum Qualifications

High School Diploma or Equivalent Certification

Licensed as a Certified Nursing Assistant in accordance with the requirements of the state governing the facility.
