The Wichita Area Metropolitan Planning Organization (WAMPO) is seeking to fill position of Accountant or Financial Analyst. The position is responsible for recording and maintaining financial records, payroll, bank deposits, reconciliations, quarterly tax filings, and other required reporting, as well as implementing the procurement procedures.

Duties: Typical tasks and duties of the Account or Financial Analyst may include, but are not limited to the following:

Financial

Assists in development and implementation of the WAMPO’s financial policies and plans, accounting system procedures, practices and fiscal controls.

Works directly with external independent auditors in providing information regarding the MPO’s internal controls, financial presentation, and annual financial statements.

Develops government financial reports, reviews contracts, purchase orders, and invoices for validity and proper recording in the general ledger to ensure compliance with federal funding and contractual reporting mandates.

Preparation and recording of the MPO’s payroll and related tax reports. Preparation of 1099 forms annually. Verification and distributions of W-2’s

Provides the Executive Director and other MPO management with general information, reports, and/or financial information relevant to current issues or projects and advises on financial/contractual/regulatory matters.

HR

Assists during the pre and post hiring process.

Administers the employee benefits program to new and existing employees.

Maintains employee personnel files.

Education and Experience Required:

Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or related field from an accredited college or university, plus a minimum of three years of progressively responsible experience in related accounting, financial and project management experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience

Audit experience preferred

Public sector and supervisory experience would be a plus

Knowledge of Government accounting and SEFA (Schedule of Expenditures of Federal Awards) a plus

CPA certification preferred, but not a necessary for this position

The selected candidate must pass a background check, post-offer physical and alcohol/drug test, and have a valid driver’s license.

Compensation: Expected salary range between $51,220 and $81,125 depending on qualifications, experience, and skill level.

Benefits include: health/dental/vision/life insurance and an optional flexible spending account (FSA). After six months of employment an optional retirement plan is available (WAMPO matches up to a specific percentage). Paid time off includes: 10 vacation days accrued per year, 6 sick days accrued per year, and12 paid holidays (including 1 personal day).

About WAMPO:

WAMPO is the Metropolitan Planning Organization (MPO) for the Wichita metropolitan region. MPOs are federally required regional policy bodies in urbanized areas with populations over 50,000. MPOs recognize the critical links between transportation and other societal goals such as economic health, air quality, social equity, environmental resource consumption, and overall quality of life. WAMPO is responsible, in cooperation with the State of Kansas and Wichita Transit, for carrying out the metropolitan transportation planning process in 22 cities and 3 counties in South Central Kansas.
