The Specialized IT team within our Trust group, supports our 10,000+ employees globally by designing and building solutions to run, manage and secure our fleet of employee hardware. Wherever Shopifolk are located on the planet, our team provides the great support our systems and teams need to get things done. Think - tools like Okta, Google Workspace, Slack and Freshservice.

We’re looking for an experienced technology leader that deeply understands the systems their team owns, and can ensure that we are shipping the right things to support this next phase of Shopify’s growth. As a people lead, you’ll lead a team of IT Specialists, and will be responsible for their mentorship and career development.

Here’s what you can expect from the role - an opportunity to:

  • Manage the day to day cross-team operations
  • Lead a team of managers and IT specialists
  • Develop and drive the strategic vision for your area
  • Deep dive into the systems the teams administers and advise on configuration and functionality changes
  • Collaborate cross-functionally to identify gaps and solutions
  • Lead and contribute to large scale and/or complex projects as required
  • Create growth opportunities for your team through 1:1s, goal setting and feedback
  • Establish baseline level of knowledge in all areas the team supports
  • Utilize data to implement and measure changes to our internal support strategy
  • Grow the team both through mentoring and acting as a subject matter expert to a team of individual contributors


To be successful on the Information Technology team you must possess:

  • Proven team leadership skills. Your management skills and technical depth allows you to develop and mentor others as well as build credibility with your team while executing broader IT strategies.

  • Experience in building strategy & roadmaps. You’ve had experience integrating your team’s goals with larger company initiatives to deliver business and technology value.

  • Solid Problem Solving Ability. You’re not satisfied with the status quo. You’re constantly on the lookout for ways to improve processes and workflow.

  • Broad understanding of systems.

  • Software-as-a-Service experience. Our internal technology stack is mostly SaaS apps, so you’ll need to be familiar with the delivery of technology through those platforms.

  • Comfortable working in a Mac and ChromeOS environment. We are a largely Mac/chrome OS-based company, so your knowledge of and experience troubleshooting macOS/chrome OS and hardware will go a long way.

  • Continuous learning. Shopify moves fast - you are a constant learner, always looking to develop your management and technical skills and stay-up-to date with the latest changes and releases.

  • Context Switching. We have a lot going on. You will need to be able to multitask and prioritize on the fly.
