Summary:

The Senior Systems Engineer will be responsible for the integration of Linux resources into a primarily Windows Infrastructure (e.g. Active Directory, AD base DNS, etc.) across all domains. Responsibility extends to include but not limited to, administration, configuration, high availability, backup, and disaster recovery across the organization’s Linux (RHEL 7/8 and Ubuntu) platforms. The primary domain consists of approximately ten thousand users. 90% of this role requires the individual to work alone. Little to no team work is involved. The role requires heavy research and development when necessary.

Tasks:

This role is responsible for designing, engineering, integrating, re-architecting the entire Linux posture using RHEL7/8 and Ubuntu.Using these skills, the role will perform the following tasks:

  • Maintain and troubleshoot Linux systems on a day-to-day basis

  • Ensure system lifecycles are performed (e.g. Ubuntu 18.04 LTS -> 20.04 LTS and so on with OS upgrades)

  • Enterprise Authorization: Integrate Linux Systems (currently, RHEL 7/8 and Ubuntu systems) into a primary Windows environment (workstations & servers) where authentication, authorization, and accounting actives are controlled by Active Directory with PKI certificates and Single Sign On

  • Provide administrative access based on group security, applied with least privilege and other permission access management techniques

  • Enterprise Patching: Ensure patches are maintained across a diverse Linux environment (e.g. Ubuntu, RHEL7/8, CentOS, etc.) in a heavily automated manner, where possible

  • Enterprise Provisioning: Configure new Linux systems for customer use and ensuring that initial configurations meet required enterprise baselines & controls (e.g. proper agents installed, proper configs, etc.)

  • Enterprise Baseline & Policy: Ensure that already-provisioned Linux systems are kept in compliance with baseline requirements & ever-changing enterprise policy (e.g. equivalent to Group Policy in the Windows realm for ongoing compliance updates)

  • Develop an operating system lifecycle plan with integration of DoD STIGs and other recommended security standards

  • Integrate Linux systems with other enterprise tooling (e.g. ACAS, Splunk, SolarWinds, Backup systems, etc.)

  • Monitor all solutions integrated via a centralized alerting system (Solarwinds)

  • Certify log management and forwarding to a single repository (Splunk)

Requirements:

  • BS in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, Mathematics, or other related scientific or technical discipline is required.

  • Position requires three to eight years of relevant experience supporting projects of similar size, scope and complexity.

  • Be able to work alone outside a team setting and conduct Research & Development in a timely manner and with favorable results.

  • Experience can besubstitutedfor education.

  • Candidate must bepossessor be able to acquireDoD 8140IAT Level IIcompliance(CompTIA Security+, etc.) upon hire.

  • ActiveTop Secretclearance that has been adjudicated within the last 52 months.
