What you'll do

JOB SUMMARYAct as an advocate for user-centered design to ensure well-designed products, with features and interfaces that allow customers to accomplish their tasks easily. Edit structure and program content for clarity, ease of use, and style.

JOB DUTIES
  • Research, analysis and strategy.
  • Apply usability engineering methods to establish user requirements, test design solutions, and evaluate product implementation.
  • Define test goals, establish participant requirements, write test plans, and conduct test sessions.
  • Analyze findings from evaluations and recommend changes to improve the user experience.
  • Assess functionality and content needs by comparing current editions to standards set by the TaxCut Federal program and by competitive products, and develop proposals for improvement.
  • Product design specification.
  • Design storyboards and prototypes of the user interaction model, workflow, information architecture, and user interface for new or modified features.
  • Write and illustrate complete functional specifications for product features.
  • Facilitation of user-centric design implementation.
  • Work with the software development team, tax teams, and project managers to ensure implementation of the specific designs.
  • Assist in editorial tasks as required.
  • Propose specific content changes in the Federal and state program based on best editorial and usability practices.
  • Contribute to the BFC interaction and user interface (UI) guidelines.

JOB REQUIREMENTS
  • Bachelor's degree in Human Factors, Technical Writing, Instructional Design or related field, or the equivalent through a combination of education and work experience.
  • Two to four years experience releasing commercial web-based or end user software products.
  • Two years experience conducting usability evaluations, using current usability testing and evaluation methods.
  • Strong understanding of software development cycle (the process of specification, design, and implementation) and engineering concerns that arise in designing and building interfaces.
  • Demonstrated ability to analyze product functionality and propose usability enhancements.
  • Ability to translate customer requirements into product specifications.
  • Effective oral, written and interpersonal communication skills with one year experience writing and editing for interactive media. Exceptional listening skills.
  • Experience working with multidisciplinary teams - engineering, application development, documentation, quality assurance, customer service, and marketing teams
