Job Description

Repairs and maintains machinery and mechanical equipment used in production of wire and any necessary support equipment, including wire drawing equipment, air compressors, boilers, fork trucks, pumps, D.C. motors and controllers, furnaces, waste water treatment system and other related equipment.

Responsibilities

  1. Observes mechanical devices in operation and listens to their sounds to locate causes of trouble. Dismantles devices to gain access to and remove defective parts. Examines form and texture of parts to detect imperfections. Inspects used parts to determine changes in dimensional requirements. Adjusts functional parts of devices and control instruments.
  2. Repairs or replaces defective parts. Installs special functional and structural parts in devices. Lubricates and cleans parts. Starts devices to test their performance. Sets up and operates lathe, drill press, grinder, and other metalworking tools to make and repair parts.
  3. Installs power supply wiring and conduit for new installed machines and equipment such as conveyors and programmable controllers. Connects power supply wires to machines and equipment, and connects cables and wires between machines and equipment.
  4. Diagnoses malfunctioning apparatus such as transformers, motors, lighting fixtures, and replaces damaged or broken wires and cables. Tests malfunctioning machinery to diagnose malfunction. Replaces faulty electrical components of machine devices. Diagnoses and repairs or replaces faulty electronic components, such as printed circuit boards. Replaces electric motor bearings and rewires motors.
  5. Plans layout of wiring and installs wiring, conduit, and electrical apparatus in buildings. Dianoses and replaces faulty mechanical, hydraulic, and pneumatic components of machines and equipment.
  6. Uses oxygen/acetylene, plasma, SMAW, GTAW, or GMAW weldling and cutting equipment to make machinery repairs, fabricate new parts, and build needed production accessories from raw materials.
  7. Initiates purchase order for parts and machines.
  8. Regularly performs safety inspection in area and corrects problems where possible. Reports other problems to Team Supervisor for corrective action. Responsible for housekeeping in area. Responsible for reviewing applicable Material Safety Data Sheets and regularly review lock-out/tag-out and other safety procedures.
  9. Assures that finished work/products meet quality standards and specifications.
  10. Performs any other miscellaneous duties as may be assigned. Assists other team members in Work Group as needed. Responsible for passdown of operation information, problems, etc., to co-workers on the next shift.

Must be able to interact with co-workers on all levels and possess excellent people skills.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:

College or technical school certificate or two to four years related experience and/or training, or equivalent combination of education and experience. Must possess educational minimum of high school diploma.

LANGUAGE SKILLS:

Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or govermental regulations.Ability to write routine reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:

Ability to work with basic mathematical concepts such as fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and, where applicable, trigonometry. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.

REASONING ABILITY:

Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclsions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:

Must be able to be certified as forklift operator.

OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

Must be able to read and interpret blueprints. Must be able to operate computer and utilize computer software.
