Learn more atThe Division of Animal Resources at the Yerkes National Primate Research Center at Emory University is currently seeking a highly motivated, highly skilled, qualified veterinary technician to join our team at our busy Main Station in the position of Veterinary Technician II. This role functions with a great deal of autonomy and responsibility; solid technical skills, sound judgment, excellent communication skills, a positive attitude and the ability to work both independently and with a team are required.The successful candidate will have demonstrated knowledge and skill in recognizing the appearance of abnormal health conditions and providing basic veterinary care to animals, especially nonhuman primates and rodents, used in biomedical research.JOB DESCRIPTION:

Under general supervision, assists the veterinarians and researchers in surgery and radiology, animal care, treatments, and diagnostic and preventative procedures.

Maintains medical records and inventory.

Provides non-surgical technical assistance to researchers as directed.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

A high school diploma or equivalent.

Three years of experience as a veterinary technician OR a high school diploma or equivalent and four years of experience as an animal care technician OR graduation from a two-year veterinary technician program and one year of veterinary technician experience.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Strongly prefer a licensed veterinary technician with work experience in a veterinary hospital.

Experience with anesthesia monitoring in the operating room is ideal.

Experience working with rodents is helpful.

Effective written and verbal communication skills required.

Strong interpersonal skills and team-oriented approach are essential softskills.

Position is most suitable for a veterinary technician that can learn and implement new skills and competently work in a high-paced environment.

WORKING ENVIRONMENT:

This position reports directly tothe Vet Tech Supervisor and Chief of Clinical Operations.

The work schedule will be Monday-Friday 7:30 A.M. - 4:00 P.M. (rotating weekend and Holiday required); Occasional after-hours work may be required.

Work may be physically demanding and include procedures that involve pushing, pulling, and lifting animals up to 50 lbs or 25 kg.

This position has an indoor/outdoor work environment that may require working in inclement weather conditions.

This position also requires exposure to biohazards and potentially dangerous animals.

A valid driver’s license and insurable driving record may be necessary.

Employees in this classification may be required to work with, take specific precautions against and/or be immunized against potentially hazardous agents.
