Job Description

SUMMARY:Responsible for the installation, testing, analyzing, maintaining, repairing and training of Syntegon packaging equipment and associated products at customer sites, with primary emphasis on supporting various control platforms. Primary focus is to provide customers with excellent technical customer service and ensure complete satisfaction. This position has a direct and significant impact on maintaining our customer base as well as growing new business for Syntegon Technology Services.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Provide field service repairs, training and installations as scheduled by Field Service department.
  • Maintain proficiency in control software (e.g. Allen Bradley, various controls platforms) and machinery equipped with PLC’s through vendor training and interaction with engineering personnel
  • Interact, support and assist the Product, Project and Sales departments with order review, design reviews, assembly, testing and final acceptance tests to become proficient with the control packages interface and integration
  • Interact and assist Assembly and Quality Control personnel during machine assembly and testing / debug stages in preparation for machine shipment.
  • Provide support to Customers, Customer Service department and Sales department as required.
  • Interact with Sales Managers / Project Managers on customer equipment needs and concerns and / or updates.
  • Occasionally perform customer service site management for new equipment installations and / or existing machine upgrades.
  • Maintain necessary machine configuration documentation during installation.
  • Assist the Parts and Modernization departments with quoting electronic controls software and hardware upgrades and / or electrical component upgrades.
  • Provide updates and modifications to machine control software at customer sites and training customers on use and maintenance of equipment.
  • Train customers, internal technical personnel and sales support staff on proper operation, maintenance and safety rules of packaging equipment, specifically on electronic controls and robotics.
  • Coordinate development activities and upgrades related to updating and improving machine functionality.
  • Support all aspects of operating controls systems, equipment and machinery.
  • Participate in continuous training, as needed, in order to maintain technical expertise and proficiency on new equipment and existing systems applications.
  • Process detailed expense and trip reports on all service visits, in a timely fashion.
  • Work in tight quarters; on top of and underneath equipment. Stand, stoop, kneel and bend continuously while working on equipment (66% of the time).
  • Lift up to 50 lbs on a regular basis.
  • Submit to safety, background and drug/alcohol testing as required by customers and wear personal protective equipment as necessary.
  • Travel up to 80% domestically and internationally which requires nearby proximity (within 50 miles) to a major metropolitan airport and may require residence in a specific geographic area to better serve a specific customer base. Due to business needs, approval will be required, post-hire, if an associate wishes to relocate.

Qualifications

BASIC REQUIREMENTS:

  • Must possess an Associate degree in Electrical Engineering or have 2+ years of vocational training and have a minimum of 2+ years of direct work experience with at least oneCarton erector/ former /closer or automated robotic machinery
  • Must have a minimum of 2+ years in the Packaging industry designing, installing and trouble-shooting PLC motion control software and hardware including experience in repair/maintenance of capital equipment or electronics such as servo drives, HMI’s and programmable controllers

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience with ladder logic as well as other machine control software and hardware.
  • Demonstrated advanced mechanical, electrical and software skills.
  • Ability to support various software control platforms for complete packaging lines.
  • Proficiency in operating controls systems of equipment (Allen Bradley, CTC, Moeller, Siemens, PLC, PMAC, etc.).
  • Proficiency in robotic vision systems, software and hardware configurations and production parameter setup.
  • Ability to effectively communicate with all levels of personnel, from production to management.
  • Strong computer skills (MS Office)
  • Strong oral and written skills with the ability to manage time and work independently
  • Strong customer service focus with ability to assure customer confidence in the operation of equipment
  • German-speaking skills a plus, but not required
