Washington, DC/ Maryland/ Virginia - Number 1 Sons is looking for great people to represent us at area farmers markets as Pickle Stand representatives. If you love local food and fermentation, value community engagement and enjoy working outside, we want to talk!Job DescriptionOur Pickle Stand representatives, “marketeers”, are the hands, face and heart of Number 1 Sons at local farmers markets. Marketeers set up the stand before market, break down after market, maintain the pickle stand, pack products to order and complete transactions.Marketeers also answer customer questions about our products and educate about pickled and fermented foods generally. Most importantly, marketeers build relationships with customers by engaging with enthusiasm, a touch of humor, and tons of warmth and presence.For intrepid marketeers, Number 1 Sons is also looking for individuals to drive and drop off/ pick up market supplies in a pickle van before and after the market shift. Pay increases proportionately.Starting pay is $15.20/ hr plus $20 product credit and market vendor discounts (varies).Job RequirementsThe marketeer is responsible for setting up and breaking down the pickle stand at market, including tents, tables, and product displays. Marketeers provide their own smartphone and use it to ring up customer purchases through our POS application. Number 1 Sons provides the card reader. Pickle Stand work is physical and includes extended periods of standing and some walking. Marketeers use repetitive hand movements, and frequently lift and carry up to 40 lbs. The shift is performed outdoors, rain or shine, and punctuality is paramount.QualificationsMust love food and local food systems Working knowledge of fermentation and/or previous experience in food and beverage is preferred, but not required. Strong communication skills and personable nature Clean and organized, and can work with a sense of urgency Ability to multitask Punctual Can stand for long periods of time and work in a variety of weather conditions Many of the Pickle Stand Squad have 9-5 jobs.
