Location: Johnston, RI Description: Principal User Experience Design Researcher - Innovation group in Providence RI - 3 days on site 2 days remoteThe role is part of an Innovation group comprised of 12 highly-experienced professionals, with a focus on the future, working across the enterprise to transform the way things are done. Seeking a person with an innovation, start up and incubator mentality. Will pay for parking or train commute monthly VACCINE MANDATED ROLE Essential Functions & Responsibilities

  • Facilitate highly-engaging meetings and workshops, using innovation tools and methods (e.g., Design Thinking)
  • Form strategic approaches to ensuring human-centric considerations for innovation projects
  • Practice experimental design, generate research plans, and coordinate work on simultaneous projects, with proof of concept as the goal
  • Work with cross-functional teams to execute on research needed from discovery to launch and beyond - making sure we are working on the right things at the right time, based on applicability and priority
  • Communicate research findings and identify opportunities for research to help inform a broader design strategy and to execute on that across different levels of the organization and will work closely with innovation consultants, innovation analysts, and designers, day to day
Qualifications
  • 7+ years of experience design research, strategy, service design, interaction design, and/or interface design - ideally in a large enterprise, preferably B2B. (Experience in Insurance and/or other Financial Services is a plus.)
  • Fluency facilitating meetings and workshops using innovation tools and methods (e.g., Design Thinking)
  • Experience with several research paths such as interviews, surveys, usability testing, etc.
  • Ability to communicate research findings thoroughly across different levels of the organization
  • Past experience working in a design firm or as part of an innovation team.
  • Skills Expert at leading and executing research process and methodologies, from discovery to launch and beyond (including experimental design, generating research plans, defining and tracking experience metrics, data analyses (qual and quant), data synthesis, and coordinating work on multiple products).
  • Experience with most if not all of the following: interviews, surveys, qualitative and quantitative usability testing, ethnography, contextual inquiry, IA testing (card sorting, tree testing, etc.), diary studies, analytics, and design thinking workshops.
  • Able to choose the right method at the right time given product priority, team maturity, and overall opportunity for research to make an impact.
  • Exhibits strong communication, presentation, interpersonal, and analytical skills; has the ability to communicate research findings clearly and persuasively across different audiences and varying levels of the organization.
  • Works with designers, product owners, developers, and business stakeholders to define and measure quantitative experience design goals and metrics, and to prioritize research opportunities in a fast-paced, rapidly-changing environment.
  • Excellent command of research questions within a given domain, and of technical tools for the analysis of data within that field.
  • Track record of influencing senior stakeholders and business decisions based on data-driven experience design research insights.
  • Thoroughly understands strengths and shortcomings of different research methods.
  • Develops case studies, research reports, and other compelling communications about the impact of research, measurement, and testing throughout the organization.
  • Practices Servant Leadership and sets a strong example for the team and organization.
  • Mentors and consults with others on best research practices.
  • Start-up mindset.
  • Ability to be work successfully in a flexible fast paced environment. Interest or background in behavioral science would be bonus.
Education
  • BA/BS in Graphic Design, Interaction Design, Industrial Design, Human-Computer Interaction, Information Science, Cognitive Science, Cultural Anthropology, Psychology, Behavioral Economics, a related field, or equivalent practical exp
