Job Summary:


Join an industry-leading team as an experienced

Metallurgical Engineer supporting development of HVAC&R components and systems for Trane Technologies as part of the Materials Engineering Team. In this position, you will be part of Trane Technologies Corporate Networkof Excellence (NoE) applying materials solutions and helping our customers find sustainable and energy-efficient solutions for their building and transport refrigeration needs. This role works across all Trane Technologies businesses - Trane Residential, Trane Commercial and Thermo King. The position requires knowledge and experience with properties and application of metals & alloys such as steels, copper, aluminumand other non-ferrous metals. Areas of responsibility include investigation of material processing, testing material properties, failure analysis, lubrication/tribology, corrosion and evaluation of development components. The ideal candidate will manage and execute multiple projects simultaneously while identifying new technologies/trends in the industry to keep Trane Technologies products on the leading edge.


Core Job Duties and Responsibilities (others may be added):

  • Provide materials/metallurgical support and usage direction for new technology, new product development, cost improvement, and reliability projects for HVAC&R systems and components.
  • Develop and interpret materials-related specifications, drawings, and engineering standards.
  • Guide and direct metallurgical evaluations and write technical reports to document results.
  • Lead and participate in engineering projects using Six Sigma tools and contribute materials expertise to part design, material selection, and process development.
  • Interact closely with multi-disciplinary teams including Design, Quality, Reliability, Manufacturing, and Product Engineering to support failure resolution, technology development, and product development efforts.
  • Identify, screen, develop, mature, and implement new materials-related technologies.
  • Up to 15% travel may be required, including international travel.


Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Metallurgical or Materials Engineering and at least 2years of materials/metallurgical work experience is required.
  • Master's Degree in Engineeringis a plus.


Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Required

  • Strong background and experience in materials/metallurgical engineering
  • Experience with failure analysis and metallurgical testing techniques using destructive and non-destructive test methods
  • Proficient in problem-solving with excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong interpersonal skills, capable of working independent of supervision
  • English speaking/reading/writing skills required.
  • Proven ability to drive innovative ideas/solutions into product designs.
  • Experience writing technical reports, specifications, invention disclosures, patent applications, patents, and publications. Ability to present to internal and external stakeholders, and at external conferences.


Physical Demands:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use hands to operate computer and laboratory equipment. The employee frequently is required to walk and sit. The employee is occasionally required to stand. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, and ability to adjust focus. Work Environment:

This position works in a typical office and laboratory environment. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. Occasional travel may be required, with visits to suppliers, external partners, customers’ locations, and Trane Technology manufacturing locations. Safety shoes and safety glasses (provided by company) are required to be worn at all times in the laboratory and manufacturing areas.
