Associate Attorney (San Jose-Downtown)

Brief description: seeking an aggressive, litigation oriented, associate who either has passed the bar exam or is currently graduating and taking the July Bar, and has anywhere up to three years experience, including clerkships. Practice is predominately criminal defense and plaintiff personal injury at the trial court level litigation, with some associated appellate work. Associate will handle cases based on ability, some from start to conclusion, and others will be handled with Mr. Defilippis. Associate will be focused on working cases up for trial, and will make court appearances, research and write various motions and briefs, prepare and file pleadings, argue motions, negotiate cases, interview clients and witnesses, take depositions, work with clients to respond to discovery, do the final preparation of cases for trial, and conduct trials and/or sit second chair for trial.

The ideal candidate must be highly motivated, efficient and effective, detail oriented with good communication skills with client and colleagues. Good writing skills and oral presentation skills are a must. Trial and federal practice experience are certainly a plus, but are not a requirement, as this is an entry level to young associate position. The ability to work independently and be a self starter are a key ingredient of the job, but the candidate must also be able to work as part of a tight-knit team that focuses on providing exceptional client service and high quality work product.

Hiring criteria/experience necessary: primarily post bar, with up to three years experience; However, strong candidates who will be taking the July 2020 Bar Exam will be considered.
